How the ESFA will Use Your Personal Information
This privacy notice is issued by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), on behalf of the Secretary of
State for the Department of Education (DfE). It is to inform learners how their personal information will be
used by the DfE, the ESFA (an executive agency of the DfE) and any successor bodies to these organisations.
For the purposes of relevant data protection legislation, the DfE is the data controller for personal data
processed by the ESFA.

Your personal information is used by the DfE to exercise its functions and to meet its statutory
responsibilities, including under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and to create and
maintain a unique learner number (ULN) and a personal learning record (PLR). Your information will be
securely destroyed after it is no longer required for these purposes.

Your information may be used for education, training, employment and well-being related purposes,
including for research. The DfE and the English European Social Fund (ESF) Managing Authority (or agents
acting on their behalf) may contact you in order for them to carry out research and evaluation to inform the
effectiveness of training.

Learning Record Service (LRS) Privacy Notice

Numbers (ULN) and creates Personal Learning records across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and is
operated by the Education and Skills Funding Agency, and executive agency of the Department for Education

GUIDANCE

Tips for completing your online enrolment form

 Click the yellow ‘Next’ arrow on screen to navigate to the next field (question) in the
application form.
 There may be some sections of this enrolment form which are not relevant to your
application. You are not required to complete these sections. The best way to
identify the relevant sections is to use the navigation function described above, as
this is set up to bypass fields which are not required.
 At the top right of the screen you will see a small blue square button. This shows the
number of required fields that you have left to complete. Click this small blue
square button to navigate to the next required field in the application form. Please
note this function is not visible on many smartphones and tablets.
 Hover the mouse over the same blue square button. If there is an error in the form this will
display red text which says “fix 1 (or more) error(s)”. Click on this to move to the first error.
 If you need to use your phone to take a picture of ID you can return to your form on there
