In the introduction to his book, The Knowledge of the Holy, A. W.

Tozer says, "what comes into

our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." What you think about
God is important because it defines what you believe, ultimately, about all reality. In about two
paragraphs, answer the following two questions.

1. What first comes into your mind when you think about God?

When I think about God, I think about right from wrong. I know this is probably not what should
come to mind, but I am such a people pleaser. I can’t sleep at night if I know I have hurt or upset
someone. I also have a very guilty conscience. I like for everyone in my life to be always happy
with me. When I was younger, the thought of disappointing God or disappointing people around
me in church would give me so much anxiety, I wouldn’t be able to sit through Sunday Service
without holding my mom’s hand. I know God knows we all sin, but the “people pleaser” in me
hates the thought of disappointing him or not living up to the potential he planned for me.

2. What reasons do you have to believe your thought about God is actually true, and not an
invention of your own mind?

The reality of who God is, is the opposite of what I feel. I am so scared to disappoint God,
but I know that I do what he would want me to, in reality, I don’t do anything that would make
him frown at me, and even if I did, he would forgive me. God loves all of us equally, no matter
our mistakes.
