COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING NC-II

SERVER CONFIGURATION
A. Set up Domain Controller (Server Basics 1)
1. Set Computer Name
2. Set Static IP Address [Default Gateway is optional]
3. Set Preferred DNS Server [Use Server’s IP Address]
4. Enable Remote Desktop
5. Add Roles
 Active Directory Domain Services
 Install File Services
 Install Network Policy and Access Services
 Install Print and Document Services
 Install Remote Desktop Services
 Install DNS Server
Note: To install DNS Server, follow Step No. 6
6. Search (In the Search Box) and Install DCPROMO [DNS Server will be added automatically to
Roles]
Important Reminders:
 Create New Domain [Example: JLCNTS.Local]
 Select Windows Server 2008 r2 in the Forest Functional Level
 Set Password [Write it down in case forgotten] In setting password, observe the password
complexity requirement, such as Capital Letters, Number Case, and Password Length
 Restart
Note: For other settings in this configuration not specified above, just let the default settings
or simple click Next without changing anything in the settings.

B. Create User Groups Active Directory (Server Basics 2)


1. Create Organizational Unit: Go to Start  Administrative Tools  Active Directory Users &
Computers
2. Right click the Domain [e.g. JLCNTS.Local]  Click New  Organizational Unit (OU)  Set OU
Name [e.g. JLCNTS-CSS]
Note: Make sure to uncheck Protect Box
3. Create 2 more Organizational Unit (OU) inside the previously created OU: Right Click OU
click New  Organizational Unit (OU)  Set OU Name [e.g. FOLDER-1]
Note: Make sure to uncheck Protect Box
4. Create Admin User: Click Users OU  Right Click Administrator  click Copy  Enter
Firstname, Lastname, User Logon Name  Enter Password  Check boxes User Cannot
Change Password, Password Never Expire  Finish
Note: Do not forget User Logon Name & Password
5. Move the newly created User to the previously created Sub-OU: Click User and drag to Sub-
OU
6. Create Standard User in another Sub-OU: Right Click Sub-OU  Click New  Click User 
Enter Firstname, Lastname, User Logon Name  Enter Password  Check boxes User
Cannot Change Password, Password Never Expire  Finish
Note: Do not forget User Logon Name & Password
C. Set up DHCP (Server Basics 3)
1. Go to Start  Administrative Tools  Server Manager
2. Click Add Roles  Check DHCP  Validate Preferred DNS Server
3. Add Scope  Enter Scope Name  Enter Starting IP Address & Ending IP Address [Default
Gateway is optional]  Finish

D. Join (Windows 7) Client PC to Domain (Server Basics 4)


1. Set Dynamic IP Address (Obtain IP Address Automatically)
2. Change Domain [Use the Domain Name in Server PC]
3. Restart
4. Once Restarted, Click Switch User
5. Enter the Admin User and Password created in the Server PC
