balls soaked in betadine cleanser, dry cherry balls
in a container, 1 picking forcep soaked in cidex, 1
dressing forcep soaked in cidex, sterile kidney
basin, absorbent pad, bedpan.
6 Protect the bed with absorbent pad
Place the patient on bedpan in a dorsal recumbent
7 position
Drape the patient with a bath blanket to permit
8 exposing just the perineal area
9 Don clean gloves
10 Pour irrigating fluid on perineal area
11 Cleanse the perineal area with cherry balls soaked
with betadine cleanser held in a dressing forcep.
Cleansing should be done anterior-posterior stroke.
Discard after each use and place on a waste
receptacle.
Using a sharp, clean safety razor, shave with one
12 hand while the other hand stretches to the skin
*Complete Shaving- shave the pubic hair from the
mons pubis down the perineum
*Partial shaving- Shave the pubic hair located half
of the vulva down to the perineum
*Mini prep- shave the pubic hair 1/3 below the
vulva down to the perineum
13 Rinse the perineal area with warm water. Pat dry
using dry cherry balls

Discard gloves. Wash hands.
16 Inform the nurse that patient is ready.
