The paper investigates some 3D printing output parameters of a polycaprolactone (PCL) wood-based biopolymer.

In recent decades more and more emphasis is placed on the use of biopolymers for various medical, food and
industrial applications. Biopolymers are a natural alternative to synthetic polymers that exhibit reduced emission
of carbon dioxide in their synthesis. Therefore, because of the environmental preservation concerns, the studies
related to the processing technologies of biopolymers had known a significant grow. This paper analysis the tensile
strength, surface quality, weight error and cutting machinability aspects as secondary processing operation of FDM
3D printed parts. The results revealed the surfaces of the printed wood-based biopolymer are strongly influenced
by the printing temperature and printing speed. Higher printing speeds than those usually reported in the existing
literature dealing with wood -based polymers 3D printing had been tested. Also, the printed parts were subjected
to milling as secondary machining operation testing their machinability by analyzing the magnitude of the cutting
forces.
