Eyes wide shut sau profilaxia optimismului prost
temperat
Nerecomandat nici unui fel de minor, agravan al
astărilor depresive, potențial detonator al ispitei
trupești, filmu constituie o excelentă prifilaxie a
optimismului prost temperat.
Multe cusururi îi putem afla regizorului. Dacă ne
amintim, bunăoară, scena cu pilotul-cowboy călărind
bomba atomică, nu ne putem opri să gîndim ceva de
genul, are cu siguranță un șurub sărit!
Nimeni însă nu-l va putea acuza vreodatî pe stantley
kubrick că îți minte în vreun fel oarecare publicul. Iar
adevărurile pe care le redactează în eyes wide shut
sint unele din cele mai dure.
Lumea întreagă zace sub stăpânirea răului. 1 Ioan
5,19
S-ar zice că avem de a face cu o exagerare, cu
imprecațiile vreunui moșneag reumatic, ale vreunui
sectant ce împarte broșuri la colț de stradă. Filmul
acesta nu face decît să confirme, prin mijloace
specifice, sentința apostolului.
Tînărul medic, tom cruise, eșalonul superior al clasei
de mijloc cu conexiuni în high ligh, e admirabil în
multe privințe.
Viața lui, ferm ancorată în valorile tradiționale
burgheze (muncă și familie). Își iubește soția, nicole
kidman, o respectă, îi este fidel. Ceea ce, să
recunoaștem, face din el un model și un performer.
Nu știe însă – nu a avut timp să afle – cîteva lucrui
privind natura umană și lumea în care trăiește. Și îi
va fi dat (sărmanului? Fericitului?) să ia cunoștință
despre ele în modul cel mai brutal cu putință.
Primul dascăl: nevasta. O ”bucățică”: își face din cînd
în cînd cheful cu un șpriț sau cu un joint, cea ce nu o
împiedică să fie femeie de casă și mamă
responsabilă.
Ei bine, făptura aceasta delicată îi admnistrează
bărbatului o ”aterizare forțată”, îl lovește cu măciuca
în moalele capului pînă în andîncul inimii: l-a înșelat.
O singură dată și doar cu gîndul, nu cu fapta, cu o

Not recommended for any minors, exacerbating
depressive states, potentially triggering physical
temptations, the film constitutes an excellent prophylaxis
for ill-tempered optimism.
We can find many flaws in the director. If we remember,
for example, the scene with the pilot-cowboy riding the
atomic bomb, we can't help but think something like,
surely he has a screw loose!
However, no one will ever be able to accuse Stanley
Kubrick of lying to the audience in any way. And the
truths he presents in Eyes Wide Shut are some of the
harshest.

It could be said that we are dealing with an exaggeration,
with the curses of some rheumatic old man, of some
street corner pamphlet distributing sectarian. This film
only confirms, through specific means, the sentence of
the apostle.
The young doctor, played by Tom Cruise, the upper
echelon of the middle class with connections in high
society, is admirable in many respects.
His life, firmly anchored in traditional bourgeois values
(work and family). He loves his wife, Nicole Kidman,
respects her, and remains faithful to her. This, let's admit
it, makes him a role model and a performer.
However, he doesn't know - he hasn't had time to learn -
some things about human nature and the world he lives
in. And it will be given to him (poor guy? Lucky one?) to
become aware of them in the most brutal way possible.
His first teacher: his wife. she occasionally enjoys a
spritzer or a joint, which doesn't prevent her from being
a homemaker and a responsible mother.
Well, this delicate creature delivers a "forced landing" to
her husband, hitting him with a blunt force from the
depths of his skull to the core of his heart: she cheated
on him. Just once, and only in thought, not in action,
with a devouring passion, yet perfectly willing to give up
pasiune devoratoare, însă ți perfect dispusă să
renunțe, pentru o noapte de adulter, la absolut tot –
soș, copil, statut social etc. Aceasta deși iubirea
pentru soțul ei cunoștea în chiar acel moment un
apogeu al tandreței.
Aici e cruzimea și substanța activă a poveștii. De asta
are S K un șurub sărit: abordează cu predilecție răni
atît de gingașe ale firii, le descoperă cu impudicitatea
unui chirurg.
Iubirea dintre soți nu este, așadar, instanța ultimă și
pavăză sigură împotriva neantului. E suficient să
apaăr ceva, în ochii cuiva, pentru ca atunci cel vizat
să ia instantaneu poziția de drepți, gata să calce pe
cadravul a to ce mișcă. Acel ceva poartă un nume
intens folsit, niciodată pe deplin explorat: puterea.
Sexualitatea, erotica, oscilînd între limanul căminului
conjugal și cîntecul de sirenă al primiscuității, nu este
doar așa ”al naturii lucru” și al just for fun.
Dimpotrivă, anatomic și structural se situează
ambele în vecinătatea mpduvei puterii, în toate
registrele ei – naturală, politică, metafizică.
Promiscuitatea este amorsată, așadar, de foruri mai
înalte și mai oculte decît mult trîmbițatul instinct
animal.
În plină derută, eroul cunoaște deci ”la ea acasă” și
în forma calificată:
1 curvia nevrotică. La priveghi, cu tatăl mort de față,
femeia logodită îi face bărbatului străin și căsătorit
intempestive declarații de amor. Prestația excelentă
a actriței pune în evidență cîteva simpotme specifice
unui astfel de puseu emoțional, cum ar fi, de pildă,
paloarea și cearcănele specifice unei căderi de calciu.
2 curvia de consum – episodul cu tînăra care se
prostitutează part time. Inteligentă, tristă, posibil
studentă – vedem cîteva tomuri pe noptiera ei, între
care Indtroducing sociology (este kubrick care ne
face cu mîna). Și este seropozitivă...
3 curvia ca opțiune, ca pariu existențial. Din vocație,
am putea spune; știm însă că nu există o vocație a
absolutely everything - husband, child, social status, etc.

Sexuality and eroticism, oscillating between the haven of
conjugal home and the seductive allure of promiscuity,
are not merely "natural things" or just for fun. On the
contrary, anatomically and structurally, both lie in close
proximity to the core of power in all its realms - natural,
political, and metaphysical. Promiscuity is thus triggered
by higher and more esoteric forces than the widely
touted animal instinct.
In the midst of confusion, the protagonist encounters
promiscuity "at her home" and in a qualified form:
Neurotic promiscuity. At the wake, with her deceased father
present, the engaged woman unexpectedly professes her love
to the married and unfamiliar man. The excellent performance
of the actress highlights several symptoms specific to such an
emotional outburst, such as paleness and the distinctive dark
circles resulting from a calcium deficiency.
Consumptive promiscuity - the episode with the young
woman who engages in part-time prostitution.
Intelligent, melancholic, possibly a student - we see
several volumes on her nightstand, including
"Introducing Sociology" (it is Kubrick who waves at us).
And she is HIV-positive...
Promiscuity as an option, as an existential bet. By

promiscuității puterii în calitate de inițiați și furnizori
ai palierului superior al ingineriei desfrîului.
4 curvia ca oficiu satanic. Locul merită o analiză mai
amănunțită. Există un studiu care confirmă că pentru
coloana sonoră a ritualui orgiastic filmul a folosit
redarea inversă a unui fragemtn de Liturghie
ortodoxă!
Consternarea pe care o provoacă acest fapt se cere
calibrată prin cîteva remarci. Într-adevăr, ceremonia
neagră își propune nu doar să maimuțărească
Liturghia, ci să-i inverseze finalitățile. Liturghia
(îm)personalizează materia, energiile și
semnificațiile. ”Ale tale dintru ale Tale. Ție aducem
de toate și pentru toate.” Contează oamenii, care
împreună cu îngerii și Persoanele Sfintei Treimi au să-
și spună unii altora tot felul de lucruri.
Și pentru ca să poată sta de vorbă trebuie ca:
-identitatea fiecăruia să fie cît mai precis definită,
- resursele – trupul și sufletul, materia, energia și
informația să se constituie în elementele de limbaj.
Orgia dimpotrivă, anulează identitățile persoanelor și
transformă resursele din mjloace de comunicare în
scopuri în sine. Fețele sînt acoperite și trupurile
dezgolite – carcase interșanjabile.
Ingineria aceasta este promovată în sute de filme.
Unul dintre ele, de pildă (whipped) începe și se
termină cu următoarea frază ”toata lumea o face cu
toata lumea. Aceasta este natura fiintei.”
Într-un alt film, de data aceasta unul relativ serios,
devil’s advocate, keanu reeves, avocat si fiu de drac,
ezită sa contribuie prin actul viril la ivirea pe lume a
anticristului. Ca orice bun cetatean, are unele
vocation, we could say; however, we know that there is
no vocation for evil. There is an inclination towards evil,
ontologically inherited but also through convoluted
genetic paths, attenuated or amplified by one's own
decisions. The owner of the costume shop consents
without hesitation to his teenage daughter engaging in
prostitution. Not for money, as they seem to have no
shortage of it, but for the "love of art," out of conviction,
with an air more militant than hedonistic.
Both of them enjoy the non-erotic "caresses" of
promiscuity, as initiates and providers of the upper
echelon of debauchery engineering.

carcasses.
This engineering is promoted in hundreds of movies. One
of them, for example (Whipped from 2000), begins and
ends with the following phrase: "Everybody f.s
everybody. It’s the nature of the beast”
In another film, this time a relatively serious one, "Devil's
scrupule și cere lămuriri de la al pacino, drac sută la
sută: cum rămîne cu dragostea? Ca și cum dracul ar
procrea, ca și cum oamenii ar putea gestiona
democratic emergența antihristului... in fine,
primește următorul rspuns: ”ce, care dragoste? Nu

reacții biochimice, orgasm, etc.” Tartorul vrea sp
cumpere sufletul tînărului american, dar nu-i în stare
să ofere pe el decît sex și satisfacerea neîngrădită a
amorului propriu.
Atît de neputincios să fie oare dracul? Atît de cretin?
Nici vorbă, atît vrea să pară. Acesta este imaginea de
care are nevoie la acest palier al tainei fărădelegii:
furnizor de bunuir de larg consum. Ce se petrece, de
fapt, la aceast orgie din eyes wide shut? Lucruri pe
care oamenii le fac oricum pe la casele lor ori pe
aiurea. Ceremonia neagră nu le oferă în plus decît
atmosfera de club exclusivist si afrodisiacul numit
bau bau.
Intr-un alt film care abordează tema (the ninth gate)
unul dintre protagonițti o spuen pe șleau: satanismul
nostru e apa de ploaie! Toți acești bogătași debarcați
din limuzine în fapt de seară și în locații dichisite îi
fac lui lucifer declarații de convenineță. Fără a fi
dispuși să ofere nimic în plus: nici un dram de
atenție, de efort, de asceză. De aceea ei rămîn ai
dracului, dar nu în calitate de colaboratori apropiați,
ci în aceea de turmă, mînată de un caporl plictisit...
Știm din tradiția bisericii că diavolul nu este un
simpatic entertainer, iar adevărații profesioniști ai
satanismului au o agendă mult mai încărcată... mai
știm că din meniul întîlnirilor orgiastice fac parte
adesea lucruri mult mai puțin conforme gustului
burghez, între care tortura și crima rituală nu sînt
neaparat cele mai oribile... Un film ceva mai vechi
relatează după un fapt real o situație petrecută într-
un orășel american de provincie: personalul satanist
al unei grădinițe abuzează ritual de toți copiii, și asta
ani de zile, înainte de a fi în cele din urmă prinși.
Orgia din eyes wide shut nu dezvăluie explicit aceste
lucruri, dar nici nu le ascunde sub preș, în toată
această colcăială a desfrîului are loc cel puțin o
crimă.
Advocate," Keanu Reeves, playing a lawyer who is the

homes or randomly. The black ceremony offers them
nothing more than the atmosphere of an exclusive club
and the scare which acts as an aphrodisiac.
In another film that tackles the theme ("The Ninth
Gate"), one of the characters puts it bluntly: our
Satanism is child's play! All these wealthy people
disembarking from their limousines in elegant locations
simply offer superficial courtesies to Lucifer. They are not
willing to offer anything more: not a drop of attention,
effort, or asceticism. That is why they remain of the devil,
but not as close collaborators, but rather as a bored herd
driven by a corporal.
We know from the tradition of the church that the devil
is not a sympathetic entertainer, and true professionals
of Satanism have a much more sinister agenda... We also
know that the menu of orgiastic gatherings often
includes things much less conforming to bourgeois taste,
among which torture and ritual murder are not
necessarily the most horrific... An older film recounts,
based on a true story, a situation that occurred in a small
American town: the Satanic staff of a kindergarten
ritualistically abused all the children for years before
finally being caught.
Indeed, the orgy in "Eyes Wide Shut" does not explicitly

destui care fac cele ale diavolului, tot astfel printre
cei care poartă însemne și zorzoane sataniste vor fi
fiind destui năpăstuiți aflați în căutarea adevărului!
În film, eroul nu pare să-și dea seama ce se petrece.
Ceea ce nu neîmpiedică să tragem noi unele
concluzii.
Sînt o sumedenie de nevîrstnici care își închipuie că
bunele intenții, munca, inteligența și cumsecădenia
lor îi scutește de o prea intimă relație cu Dumnezeul
Cel Viu. Că aceste onorabile însușiri le sînt întru totul
îndeajuns pentru o viață decentă.
Tuturor acestora, s kubrick le aranjează o întîlnire cu
răul. Un test de anduranță: să vadă fiecare cîte
parale face șice ar mai rămîne din el în cazul că ar fi
pus în situație..... Iar celor care își imaginează că răul
e o problemă, prin urmare ar putea recurge în caz de
nevoie la o eventuală soluție, același autor le-o
trîntește verde în față: nu există nicio soluție!
Nici în film – îngaimă ei, eroii, în final, ceva de genul
”să rămînem împreună”, nu ca să convingă pe cineva,
ci dintr-o elementară condescendență față de public.
Și nici în viață: soții tom cruise și nicole kidman se
despart la scurt timp după terminarea filmărilor;
regizorul moare și el cu 8 luni îaninte de premiera
oficială a peliculei, fără să apuce să-i vadă montajul
final.

In the film, the hero doesn't seem to realize what is
happening. However, that doesn't prevent us from
drawing our own conclusions.
There are countless young people who imagine that their
good intentions, hard work, intelligence, and decency
exempt them from an intimate relationship with the
living God. They believe that these honorable qualities
are sufficient for a decent life.
To all of them, Kubrick arranges a meeting with evil. A
test of endurance: to see how many parallels each one
can make and how many would remain if they were put
in such a situation... And to those who imagine that evil
is a problem, therefore they could resort to a possible
solution if needed, the same author throws it in their
face bluntly: there is no solution!
Not even in the movie - the heroes stutter, in the end,
something like "let's stay together", not to convince
anyone, but out of elementary condescension towards
the audience. And not in real life either: Tom Cruise and
Nicole Kidman separated shortly after the end of filming;
the director died 8 months before the official premiere of
the film, without getting the chance to see the final edit.
