1 Divide the class into groups of four and hand out the
cards and grid to each group. They should put the cards
in the two piles, face down. Tell each group that they will
play the game as two pairs. going to school

2 Each student takes three vocabulary cards (white) and
one scenario card (grey). ill at home a job interview playing sport a wedding

3 Student A must use one of their vocabulary cards to

make a sentence about the clothes they would wear to
their scenario, without mentioning what the scenario
is. For example, I really like to be comfortable in this PHOTOCOPIABLE © Pearson Education Limited 2020 21

situation, so I would wear a T-shirt and pyjama bottoms.

4 Their partner then tries to guess which scenario in
the grid they are talking about (ill at home). If they are
correct, they win a point for their pair. Student A puts the
scenario card to one side and takes a new one. They also
put the vocabulary card face down on the bottom of the
pile and pick a new card from the top.
5 However, if they are incorrect, the other pair can steal the
point by guessing correctly. If neither group guesses the
scenario, Student A picks up another vocabulary card and
makes another sentence. This process is repeated until
the scenario card is guessed.
6 Play continues in this way with all other students taking
their turn, until all the scenario cards have been used or
as time allows. At the end, the pair with the most points
wins.
