ABSTRACT
The Berlin-Heart Excor pneumatic ventricle is currently the only system available in
young children, infants and neonates to provide long-term hemodynamic assistance
until a heart transplant. His implant technique is standardized in the septate heart
and with competent ventriculoarterial valves. Similarly, aortic and/or pulmonary
insufficiency and single or middle ventricle situations are an additional problem,
requiring imaginative solutions.

The implant technique is standardized in the septate heart with competent

ventriculoarterial valves, both for uni- and biventricular implants. It involves
extracorporeal circulation with aortic and bicava cannulation and mild-moderate
hypothermia, usually performed the procedure with the heart beating or fibrillating,
avoiding aortic clamping, with optional left atrial drainage, as described below.
