Tittle: Formation of different political parties in the United States of America.

This paper aims to discuss the formation of different political parties in the United
States of America. It will determine the difference between The Federalist and Democratic
Republicans. Furthermore, this paper will be concluding the differences and similarities of
the ideology between the parties.

The Federalist Party was one of the first two political parties in the United States,
founded by Alexander Hamilton. The leader of the Federalist Party originated in the
opposition of the Democratic Republicans Party, which led by Thomas Jefferson. They were
known for supporting a strong national government, a sound economy.

The federalist favoured weak state government and a strong centralized government,
which with the power of control commerce, tax, declare war and me treaties. Alexander
Hamilton also thinks that “common people” were ignorant and incapable of self-government;
also the elite in the state should be rule. A sound economy for them means a funding of the
old Revolutionary War debt and the assumption of state debts, the passage of excise laws,
creation of a central bank, maintenance of tariff system, and favourable treatment of
American shipping, so there should be high voting qualification. As the federalist wanted
tariffs and business protections, so this was one of the reason that the Federalist was
supported by the bankers, business interested in the Northeast of the state.

The other political party was the Democratic Republican party in the state, which
founded by Thomas Jefferson. Both the Federalist and Democratic republicans Party are the
oldest political parties in United State. Different to Federalist Party, they were known for
support a weak national government, republicanism, agrarianism, political equality, and
expansionism.

Different to the Federalist, the Democratic Republican party wanted a weak national
government. Which mean that the states government were holding more power than the
national government, as they believe democratic were right. The leader of the Democratic
Republican party, Thomas Jefferson, believes that the ordinary people are capable of self-
government, and lowering the voting qualifications too. Also, the Democratic Republicans
wanted a simple agriculture economy. Other than that, they believe in everyone is equal, and
the power of states government and national government have to be equal too. As they were
thinking for the ordinary people, so they were supported by farmers, artisans, and frontier
settlers in the South of the state.

Both the policies and attitude have a difference when they face the same situation.
The Federalists favoured a strong central government, with the power of control commerce,
tax, declare war, and make treaties. Different to the Democratic Republicans, Democratic
republicans was sought to limit the role of the national government, favouring a local control.
And this issue never settled until the Civil War. It was the basic philosophical point of
contention between the two parties. Also, the Federalist opposed to the French Revolution
and opposed American support for the anti-monarchy group, which the Democratic
Republicans supported in the French Revolution and favoured American assistance. And the
debt of America to France for its assistance during the American Revolution is seen as due
and unpaid by the D-Rs.

In conclusion, although both are not the same party, but they should have the
similarities as they were the different versions of same political party. They have the same
idea on defend their nation. As the Federalist Party would like to stay neutral when the war
start, as for the Democratic Republican Party like to ensure the nation is protected and avoid
on going to the war. Besides that, the Federalist emphasizes the industries, manufacturing,
shipping, and trade. And this idea was actually similar to the Democratic Republicans Party
which they wanted provide jobs to the working families. Also, both of the parties believe that
the central government should exist.
