REACTION PAPER ON INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION 4.

Time is changing as technology changes too. People nowadays do rely on the different machineries brought by
technology, and it can be seen on agricultural production, industrial activities, animal production, food processing, and
many more.
Industrial revolution was a period when traditional ways of doing things were slowly phased out. The period full of
advancements and innovations which historically started from Great Britain and continued to influence other parts of
the world, including Philippines.
Industrial revolution comes into four phases, the first industrial revolution which focuses on using water to mechanize
production. The second used electric power for mass production. The Third used electronics and information technology
to automate production, and now comes the Fourth Industrial Revolution which focuses on the “digital world” where
everything may seems to be robotic just like other countries.

Some of these inventions or innovations brought by the Fourth IR were the unlimited access to online sites, artificial
intelligence (AI)-robotics, the internet of things, high-tech vehicles, 3-D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy
storage and quantum computing.

Most advanced countries are now using these high-tech innovations to adapt to the fast changing world. Like Japan,
from their self-driving cars to robotic or remote-controlled teacher or dishwasher, to high-tech drones and a lot more.

The fourth industrial revolution helps improve the quality of life for population around the world. Additionally,
technology has made possible new products and services that increase the efficiency and pleasure of our personal loves
such as ordering favorite food in just a click, booking a flight through mobile phones or at your comfort, shopping online
through different well-known apps, online payments where you don’t need to fall in line, watching film or even playing
game, and any of these can now be done remotely.

On the otherhand, this industrial revolution will have some unlikely effect to labor and employment as some other
industry will hire few worker and only those who are “skilled and talented or expert” will have the chance to be hired
because of the modern way of using technology as a means of production rather than relying solely on the manpower.
This will give rise to a job market increasingly segregated into “low-skill/low-pay” and high-skill/high-pay” segments
which in turn will lead to an increase in social tension.

Industrial revolution also has an impact on government, as the physical, digital and biological worlds continue to
converge, and these will increasingly enable citizens to voice their opinions –just like what our country is facing now
( fake news are now rampant in different social media platforms) , coordinate their efforts and even the supervision of
public authorities.

But in the end, it all depends on us (people) and values we had. We need to mold a future that works for all of us, for
the betterment of every individual. In its most advanced form, the Fourth Industrial Revolution may indeed have the
potential to “robotize” or “ remote-controlled” humanity but as to look back on the best parts of human nature-
creativity and empathy, we can live in a world where “ human “is still the greatest among creations.
