!
WARNING
HAZARDS: ELECTRIC SHOCK / PRESSURE / EXPLOSION
REFRIGERANT AND OIL UNDER PRESSURE
• Bodily injury may result from explosion and/or fire if power is supplied to compressor with terminal box cover removed or
unsecured. Terminal pins may blow-out causing injuries, death or fire.
• Do not touch terminals, or wiring at terminals, or remove terminal cover or any part of compressor until power is
disconnected and pressure is relieved. See safety instructions A, B, and C.
ELECTRIC SHOCK
• Bodily injury or death may result from electrocution if terminal cover is removed while power
is supplied to compressor.
• Do not supply power to compressor unless terminal cover is secured in place and all service
valves are open.

Safety Instructions:
Service or maintenance must be performed only by trained certified technicians and according to service
instructions.
A. Follow recognized safety practices and wear protective goggles.
B. Disconnect and lockout all electrical power. Electrical measurements during operation must be taken
outside of the compressor terminal box.
C. Isolate the compressor from the system. Reclaim all refrigerant in the compressor. Do not
disassemble bolts, plugs, fittings, etc. unless all pressure has been relieved from the compressor. The
oil filter cavity must be relieved independently from the rest of the compressor since it can be isolated
by the oil check valve.

NOTE: Valves may be sealing off refrigerant from the rest of the system. Do not open
isolation valves while servicing the compressor.

WARNING: The GTS 104mm screw compressor weighs as much as 1000 lbs. (453 kg).
Use an
approved hoist to avoid personal injury. Failure to follow these instructions
could
result in serious bodily injury, or death.

General Removal and Installation Procedures

1. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power to the compressor.

2. Close all service valves to the compressor (suction, discharge, economizer, liquid injection,
and oil supply).
3. Recover refrigerant from the compressor/system per EPA regulations.
4. After refrigerant is recovered, remove all controls components from the compressor
(pressure switches, pressure transducers, and solenoid coils). To aid identification, label all
the components prior to removing them from the compressor.
5. Remove and label electrical power leads and motor sensor leads from the compressor.
6. Disconnect the discharge oil supply and economizer lines from the compressor.
7. Support the compressor with an approved hoist.

CAUTION:
DO NOT use sling rigging to rig the compressor. Use only factory installed lift
/eyes for
rigging compressor.

8. Disconnect all mounting connections and remove compressor from its position in the unit.
Proper caution should be used to avoid oil dripping from the compressor that is being
removed.
9. Remove the old suction screen and install the new screen.
10. Place a small amount of grease (P/N 06NA680001) on the suction O-ring groove to hold
the O-ring in place during installation.
11. Reinstall the compressor.
12. Check all connections for refrigerant leaks.
13. Pull a vacuum on the compressor.
14. Connect the power wiring to the compressor (see Figs 2a and 2b) torquing the terminal
nuts to 15-20 lb-ft (20-27 Nm).

CAUTION:
Do not over tighten the terminal nuts as this may
damage the insulator.

15. Connect the control power leads to the motor thermistor pins (see Fig. 1).
16. Secure the terminal box cover to the terminal box.
WARNING: Do not attempt start-up of the compressor with the compressor
terminal
cover removed or unsecured. See warning label on terminal cover.
17. Open all service valves to the compressor (suction, discharge, economizer, liquid injection,
and oil supply).
18. Start the system following the start-up procedure described in the unit installation guide.
19. Make sure that caps are on all unused schrader fittings.

CAUTION:
Wrong direction of rotation will cause severe
compressor damage. Disconnect control power
supply before removing the anti-reverse rotation
pressure switch.
