Control blood pressure
• Antihypertensives-reduce blood pressure
o Diuretics- increase volume of urine produced, eliminate excess fluids and
salts, so that the volume of blood decreases
o Beta blockers- block the response of the heart to hormones, make the heart
rate slower and the contractions less strong
• Sympathetic nerve inhibitors- prevent nerve stimulates to contradict
o ACE inhibitors- block the production of angiotensin, which reduces
contradiction
➢ Risks:
▪ Blood pressure may fall too low→ falling and injuries
▪ Side effects→ coughs, swelling of ankles, tiredness
