operating system, software and hardware of the computer. As the name implies, ‘Control’
means to manage and ‘Panel’ means a window.
The Control Panel is where you change how Windows looks and works, i.e. you can use
settings in this panel to set up Windows as per your choice

The common operations that you can do in the Control Panel are:

Taskbar Customization
The taskbar by default is located at the bottom of the | es ear
screen. It displays program icons, the Start button,
notification icons and clock (in the Notification area)
You can change the position of the taskbar to left, right or

taskbar. The quickest way to unlock the taskbar is by right-
clicking on it and choosing the Unlock the taskbar option from the context menu.

Windows Appearance
We can change the look and feel of Windows 7 by adjusting the default appearance settings. Most
of the adjustments can be done using the options in the Control Panel. For example, changing the
theme, changing the size of text and icons on the screen and changing the screen resolution.
Screen resolution can be adjusted to control the sharpness of the images and icons on the screen.
Changing Windows 7 Theme
Windows 7 has built-in themes that provide a quick way to change the look of your computer.
You can apply a theme to change appearance of your windows, wallpaper, screen saver and
system sounds together.

Changing Screen Resolution
Screen resolution determines the clarity of the text and images displayed on the screen. At

smaller; at lower resolutions, items are larger and easier to see, but fewer items fit on the

User Accounts
A user account is a collection of information that is
used by Windows to control user access to different
things such as which files and folders the user can
access, what changes the user can make and desktop
appearance settings.
Different persons can use a single computer by
creating different user accounts for each user.
Windows 7 enables you to set up a user account for
everyone using the computer. For example, you, your :
