Hoarding.

It‘s a condition, when a person refuses to bin any of his possessions to the point where he
runs out of space and his belongings start spilling out of the dresser. It is considered one of the most
annoying disorders, which is often overlooked by society, unless, of course, you or your family
members are suffering from it. Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to have this problem and are
commonly called compulsive hoarders. One of the reasons why they keep things they don’t need for
themselves is “sentimental value”, which they have towards their so beloved items. But that’s not it,
the endowment effect or the way we attach more value to things once we own them, is a big factor
in hoarders’ lives when deciding to keep the item. Adverts also play a big role, when someone is
deciding whether to buy something, especially if it’s a naive and easily manipulated person. Adverts
make their products look as appealing as possible and make other brands pale in comparison to
theirs. That is why most people buy and consume products that aren’t even that good. Personally, to
me, adverts don’t really work on me as I don’t find them appealing. When I buy something, I take the
product’s quality and usage into account. Otherwise, I just don’t buy it.

Of course, compulsive hoarding’s negative effects are greatly reflected on nature. The same is with
the current situation of ever-growing consumerism. The main issue that these problems prompt is
littering, which can’t be solved that easily. Just look at our plastic filled oceans and loads of trash in
the streets. Many countries already have laws, that prohibit littering. Not only that, but people are
encouraged to sort their accumulated junk and not buy products that they don’t need, which is very
hard for compulsive hoarders. That is why, in my opinion, compulsive hoarding is a serious problem
that shouldn’t be overlooked, because it not only pollutes our Mother Nature, but it can deteriorate
the person’s mental state up until depression. And just like that compulsive hoarding leads me to
another theme. Different and even stolen items in museums. There have been many cases, where
countries stole other culture’s artifacts and still haven’t given them back. I strongly disagree with
this. I think that museums are the best representations of country’s history and culture. If a country
displays other items other than their own, it shows disrespect to other cultures. A national museum
should be exactly what it says it is, a place where a nation’s history can be stored and used to
educate younger generations. That includes various bronze vases, abstract paintings and jewellery.
