“Different Tools and Keyboard shortcuts”

Instruction: Kindly fill-up the function of shortcut keys and description of tools in adobe
photoshop.

Shortcut keys Function

Ctrl +N Create new document
Ctrl +O Open document
Ctrl+ S Save the document
Shift + Ctrl + S Save document with a different file name
Ctrl + W/ Ctrl + F Close the current file or window

Ctrl + Z To undo deleted action
Ctrl + Alt + Z Step backward in the history

Selection Tools
Move Tool (V) Move selections, layers and guides.

Rectangular Marquee (M) Makes rectangular selection.

Crop (C) To crop an image and removed unwanted areas.

Slice (K) Divides an image or layout into smaller sections.

Slice select (K) It use to select individual slices created with the slice
tool.

Annotation, Measuring and Navigation Tools

Eyedropper (I) To increase sample size in an image.

Ruler To measures distances, locations and angles.

Hand (H) It allows you to move your image while

you're zoomed in to more than 100%.

Zoom Tool (Z) To reduce the view of your image.

Retouching Tools
Spot Healing Brush To removes unwanted spots, marks, or small
objects.

Healing Brush To fix scratches, wrinkles, dust spots, etc.

Patch Tool It is used for retouching or repairing photos

that are damaged.

Red Eye To eliminate the appearance of red eye.

Clone Stamp (S) To copies pixels from one area and applies
them to another.

Pattern stamp To give interesting textures and backgrounds

to your image

Eraser (E) To erase an element from your work.

Background Eraser Terases areas of similar colour in an image by

painting over them.

Magic Eraser To permanently deletes those selected area.

Blur Tool To blurs and softens areas you paint over

with the tool.

Sharpen To sharpens areas you paint over.

Smudge To create a finger painting effect.

Dodge (O) To lighten selected areas.

Burn tool To darken the areas you paint over.

Sponge To increase or decrease color saturation.

Painting Tools
Brush (B)

Pencil

Color replacement To easily replace the color of an object with a

different color.

History Brush (Y) To paints a snapshot from an earlier step

(history state) into the current version of the
image.

Art History Brush It also paints a snapshot from an earlier

history state into the image, but does so
using stylized brush strokes.

Gradient To daws gradual blends between multiple

colours.

Paint Bucket To fills an area of similar colour with your

Foreground colour or a pattern.

Drawing and Type Tools

Pen (P) To draw extremely precise paths, vector
shapes or selections.

Horizontal Type (T) To add standard type to your document.

Type Mask To creates a selection outline in the shape of

type.

Path selection (A) To select and move an entire path at once.
