BODY TEMPERATURE AND HEART RATE MONITORING SYSTEM DEVICE

Introduction:
This year’s summer started early with devastating heat waves across the globe. Southeast Asia
including the Philippines is currently experiencing scorching heat, with the state weather bureau logging
on the highest computed heat index this year at 48 degrees Celsius — almost half of the boiling point of
water (Velasco, 2023). Extreme heat events can be dangerous to health, even fatal that can trigger a
variety of heat stress conditions, such as inflammation, and even lead to heart attack. One way to
maintain heart health is by monitoring the heart rate. Heart rate is affected by body temperature
difference. The difference of body temperature affects the work of the heart (Chamim et al, 2020)
Medical professionals use heart rate for tracking of patient’s physical conditions. Individuals, such as
athletes, who are interested in monitoring their heart rate to gain maximum efficiency from their
training (Chawla, 2018). Examination of vital signs such as heart and body temperature is critical to be
done by every human being to know the condition of the physical health, especially to those who likely
to workout at the excessive heat.

Thus as the risk of suffering from those threat is a major concern nowadays, For this reason, people
spend a lot of money to keep sound health. However, access to many medical equipment is inconvenient
and expensive (Chawla, 2018). Therefore handy, reliable and affordable health monitoring that people
can afford and can seek first aid on time in case doctor is not available is needed. They can check their
health conditions while exercising and even it can be used on bed ridden patients to keep watch on their
health.

The measurement and monitoring of vital signs are an objective measurement of the essential
physiological functions and are essential for the diagnosis and management of various health conditions
(Sapra et al, 2023). A heart rate and body temperature monitor is simply a device that takes a sample of
heartbeats and computes the beats per minute so that the information can easily track heart and body
condition. The traditional method of assessing these vital signs involves the use of manual devices such
as thermometers and stethoscopes, which can be time-consuming and can lead to inaccurate readings if
not used correctly. Therefore, the development of new technologies that allow for the continuous,
accurate and handy monitoring of body temperature and heart rate is crucial. The research will examine
the accuracy of the device's measurements against other standard monitoring methods, as well as the
ease of use and reliability of the device in a real-world setting

The study will investigate the potential applications of the device, including its use in remote areas or in
settings where regular, reliable health monitoring is critical. by understanding the efficacy and utility of
this new monitoring technology, this study may help to advance the field of health monitoring and
improve access to affordable and handy monitoring devices for the people that in need.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In the recent years, Heat waves are extreme events that have become a major societal concern since
they are expected to increase in frequency, intensity, and duration throughout the 21st century
(Barriopedro et al, 2023). Extreme heat not only strains water, energy and transportation infrastructure,
and affects crops and livestock, it also impacts human health (Miller, 2023). The body temperature is an
most basic biomarkers linked with various aspects of our health, including metabolic health (Puri, 2021),
which can change with the onset of infections and other diseases. On the other hand, heart rate is a
reflection of the function of the cardiovascular system and can be an indicator of various health
conditions, including heart disease, hypertension, and stress. Thus monitoring vital signs such as body
temperature and heart rate plays a crucial role in early detection and prevention of various human
health and medical conditions.

The need for monitoring health vitals has become increasingly important. Traditionally, these vital signs
are recorded manually by healthcare professionals, which requires constant observation and can be
prone to human error. With the rise of health concerns and there is a growing demand for monitoring
devices that are both handy and affordable. To address this demand, researchers and manufacturers are
developing and testing new body temperature and heart rate monitoring system devices that are
portable, reliable, and cost-effective. These devices offer a range of features, including the ability to
continuously track temperature and heart rate, store data on the mobile itself, and monitor changes in
real-time.

Recent advancements in technology have led to the development of various non-invasive. Most of these
devices are wearable, and many are highly accurate. While these devices can be valuable tools in
monitoring your health, they aren't as accurate as approved medical devices, and you shouldn’t use
them in place of medical care (Clevand Clinic, 2022).

By having a body temperature and heart rate monitoring system device, individuals can also take
proactive steps towards maintaining their overall health and well-being. They can monitor their vital
signs regularly while exercising, track any changes, and seek medical attention or necessary interventions
if abnormal readings are detected.
