Title: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (

Todd Hopkins & Ray Hilbert)

Full name: Kimberly R. Villanueva
Year level: 4th-Year
Course and Major: BS in Accountancy

1. What do you think the book is all about?

This book is about how a janitor helps a successful businessman to have greater
fulfillment in life. Most of the time, we tend to focus more on the things that we think we should
prioritize even though it is not important, and that causes us to have a stressed and pressured
life. Bob, who is a janitor advised Roger who is a CEO of a company, about the 6 directives that
he should apply in his life. Those 6 principles greatly influenced Roger and was able to have a
happy and fulfilled life. As a student, I relate to this book because I also experienced what
Roger experienced.

2. Which of the topics discussed did you like most and why? Give at least 3 topics.

Recharge versus Discharge

This is like after we work all day, we need to do something that we like such as
resting, eating, golfing, or watching our favorite movies. It is very important to give yourself a
break and unwind after a stressful day. I like this topic because I can relate to this especially
now that I have no time for myself. I go to work for my on-the-job training and after work, I do my
schoolwork. It is very important to always have time for ourselves to have a meaningful day.

Don’t Spend – Invest!

This is about investing in things that have significance in our lives. If the things
we are doing are not very helpful to us, we should not invest our time and energy in them. I like
this topic because it made me realize how we should spend our time and effort. We should
invest more in things that make us happy and help us grow.

Pass it Around
This is about sharing our knowledge and wisdom with others. If we think that our
knowledge and wisdom will be beneficial to others, then we should share it. Being able to help
and motivate others gave us a sense of fulfillment. I like this topic because it tackles the
importance of sharing our wisdom and knowledge with others, and it is also very important to
share knowledge that is true and fact.
3. Did you find the book useful or helpful? Cite some valuable insights or advice you have
gained.

Yes, I find the book useful and helpful. I have learned a lot of things like if things aren't
working out the way we had hoped, pray and seek for guidance instead of pouting. Have
patience to understand the problems and know how to solve them. I can relate to this because
most of the time when I am unlucky or encounter difficulties, I tend to rant and feel sad, that I
forgot to find solutions how to solve my problems. Also, I learned how important to focus more
on the important things and avoid the things that can waste our time. It is good to prioritize work,
but it is also important to give time to rest and unwind. Most of all, love our work and our family,
but don't think of them as a responsibility because it will load our burden.

4. How does the book or the wisdom of the author change the way you think differently? Or
does the book change the way you view certain things? One example.

Yes, the book changed my perspective on life fulfillment. I thought that to have a fulfilled
life is to have a lot of money and having a successful career. But I was wrong all along because
having a fulfilled life is when we can do things that make us contented and happy, and that is to
be able to spend more time with our family and ourselves, enjoying work, helping others, and
leaving a good legacy.

5. Have you aimed for a better understanding of yourself, the personality of others, the
community, or the organization you are in? What insights have you learned from the
author that can best be applied to your studies/workplace, to your family, and to your
church to become a better version of yourself?

Yes, the insights I learned that will be applied to the workplace is to help others
by sharing what I know and my ideas when they need it. It is also important to love my work and
stop thinking that I am working for the sake of my family. For my family, the insight I learned is
to spend more time with my family and not think of them as my responsibility. And lastly for
church to go to God and pray for my worries and ask guidance from him to be able to face my
problems.
