Yorvic was the capital city of a Viking kingdom in the north of England and today it is called York. In medieval
times, York was the second city in England. Today, York is an important historic city, incredibly beautiful because
of its churches, buildings and the big Victorian railway station.
York is the home of world-famous chocolate and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There are ancient
narrow streets, old houses and nice pubs where people say there are ghosts and they tell stories of ghosts around the
fire. There are amazing castles; in the Castle Museum you can imagine you are in a 19 th century world of Victorian
streets, shops, farmhouses and homes. In the New Museum visitors travel in a special electric car (like a time
machine) through an original Viking street with the sounds and smells of the original city.
There is a festival of music and arts every summer, which includes the famous miracle plays. These are the religious
plays that people performed in the streets of mediaeval York and that people still enjoy today.
