The local stresses in the blade root fillets are not to exceed 1.2 times the nominal allowable stresses
for the defined root section. For single radius fillets this may be obtained by a fillet radius not less
than:

in 2.0, t06 may be taken as actual profile thickness at 60% radius. Ingeneral t06 may be derived from

INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR HYD NUT

1 . PREFACE

The HYD nut is a high pressure oil hydraulic nut used to push up a propeller or other objects
easily.

2 . SPECIFICATION

Maximum pressure - Please see specification of HYD nut.


Maximum stroke - Please see specification of HYD nut.
Pipe thread - 3/8" pipe thread.
Available oil - DTE oil light(Mobil) or equivalent.

3 . TREATMENT

Treat HYD nut as follows;


(Please refer to item number in drawing of Page 19)

3-1) Set loading ring (2) at position.

Push loading ring(2) as, surface of loading ring coincides with surface of nut body(1).

3-2) Air vent.

Turn HYD nut unit the two plugs(5) are in a vertical line, and then remove the two plugs(5).

Connect oil pum p to the lower plug hole and operate it until oil com e sout from the upper
plug hole. Then shut the two plug holes again with the two plugs(5), screw part of which
should be rolled by tape seal.

3-3) Mount HYD nut at applied position.

If HYD nut is set at vertical position, air vent (item 3-2) can be carried out at this step.

3-4) Connect oil pump.

Remove one of two plugs and connect the oil pump to the plug hole, and tighten the other
plug.

3-5) Operate the oil pum p.

Please see instruction manual for oil pump.

3-7) Stop operation of the oil pump.

Open valve of oil pum p to drop oil pressure to zero.

3-8) Remove the oil pump

Remove the oil pum p and , screw the plug(5) , screw part of which should be rolled by tape
seal.

3-9) Drive HYD nut to tighten.

Insert an iron bar into holes machined around nut body(1), and drive HYD nut until nut
surface is attached to surface of the abject

Special equipment to tighten HYD nut can be used if necessary.

3-10) Lock the HYD nut.

4. REPLACEMENT OF SEAL PART

If seal part of loading ring(2) is dam aged, replace it as follows;

4-1) Remove two plugs(5)

Remove two plugs(5) at vertical position, and vent oil from the HYD nut.

4-2) Remove the loading ring(2).

Lay the nut body(1) in order that the loading rings(2) will be in an up position . Screw 4
eyebolts into holes machined on surface of loading ring(2) and life the loading ring(2) to a
veritical direction, keeping horizontal position.

4-3) Replace damaged seal.

Replace damaged O-ring(3) or Back-up ring(4) set in loading ring (2).

4-4) Mount loading ring (2).

Mount loading ring(2) into nut body(1) without scratching the seal parts.

4-5) Set loading ring (2) at position.

Push loading ring(2) as surface of loading ring(2) coincides with surface of nut body(1)

5 . INSPECTION FOR ABNORMAL CONDITION

Pay attention to the following points in case the oil pressure does not rise to the required
pressure .

5-1) Check whether amount of oil in the tank for oil pump is sufficient or not.

If it is not sufficient, fill oil to the required level.

5-2) Check whether there is oil leakage from the connected parts or not.

If oil leakage is found , tighten the connections.


If oil leakage does not stop , replace tape seal of screw part .

5-3) Check whether there is oil leakage from loading ring(2) or not.

If oil leakage from loading ring(2) is found , replace the seal parts following the instructions
shown in item 4.

5-4) Check whether oil pump is normal or not.

Check oil pump according to instruction manual of oil pump.

5-5) Check whether the pressure gauge is normal or not.

6. GENERAL REMARK

6-1) Tighten all connection parts.

6-2) Be sure to use the loading ring(2) within the stroke, with is shown in specification of HYD
nut.

6-3) During transportation, lock the loading ring(2).

6-4) Apply new prescribed oil.

6-5) As space seal part is a product of rubber and resin , therefore exposure to sunshine and
dampness should be avoided.

DESIGN CALCULATION OF KEYLESS BORE PROPELLER

(WET FITTING TYPE)

1 . INTRODUCTION
This design calculation was carried out in accordance with numerical analysis method for
WET FITTING TYPE Keyless bore propeller.

2 . CALCULATIONS ACCORDING TO NUMERICAL ANALYSIS METHOD


The design should be complied with factor of safety , two point eight (2.8) times.
The factor of safety shall be given at full power against slipping of the propeller boss on the
shaft for ahead condition at 35°C which is assum ed to be the working tem perature.
The stress condition is determ ined for O°C assum ed for the purpose of the calculation to be
the working tem perature.
As the results, push-up distances and stresses where calculated by com puter as follow

3. RESULT
- V.Mises is the computation of the "Von Mises Equivalent" uniaxial stress.
- The max. equivalent uniaxial stress in the boss bore based on "V.Mises" criterion at the
greatest interference fits of the assembly should not exceed 70 percents of the yield stress
for propeller material. 171.50 N/mm2
- The value of "V.Mises" is 148.41 N/mm 2 as above table.
- Therefore, the result of the computer calculations are sufficiently satisfied with the numerical
analysis.
