Part A: Listening and Speaking
Instructions for the teacher

The listening and speaking test will be conducted in groups one by one.
The teacher will ask the students to read all the questions given in "Instructions for the Students" before reading the paragraph.
The teacher will divide the class into groups with an equal number of students. Preferably make groups of 4 to 5 students.
For each group, the teacher will read the following paragraph twice in front of the students.
The teacher will call the students one by one.
Each student will be asked one question from each of the following two groups.
The teacher will shuffle the questions for each student.
The teacher will make sure not to repeat questions to consecutive students.
The teacher will ask the students that their answers should be in complete sentence form.
Then the teacher will show the “Reading Paragraph Text for the Students” to the students and ask them to read any two sentences from the given paragraph.

Paragraph Text for the Teacher

Seahorses are fish. They live in water, breathe through gills and have a swim bladder. However they do not have caudal fin. They are marine species. They have
horse-like head, monkey-like tail, and kangaroo-like pouch. They are typically found in seagrass beds, mangrove roots, and coral reefs, in shallow temperate and
tropical waters. In winter, some seahorse species move to deeper waters to escape the rough weather. Seahorse sizes vary depending on the species.

Award of marks

Each sentence carries 2 marks.


Award 2 marks for each sentence if the child reads it correctly.
Award 1 mark for each sentence if the child reads it with mistakes.
Award 0 marks if the child is unable to read it.

Deduction of Marks

No deduction of marks for three pronunciation mistakes.


Deduct 1 mark for four pronunciation mistakes.

*Note: Make an award list according to the given sample and record the results on that sheet.
