The gas is heated using a electric rod, raising the temperature of the gas to 60℃. Assuming the H2 gas behaves like a ideal gas, determine the work done on the gas and the final pressure. Given Cp = 14.31 (kJ/kg.K). Q2. A piston cylinder device initially contains 0.5 m3 of N2 gas at 400 kPa and 27℃. An electric heater is used to heat the gas from within the assembly. A current of 2 A is passed from 5 min at a voltage of 120 V through the heater. Heat rejected to the surrounding is 2800 J. Determine the temperature of the N2. Given Cp = 1.039 (kJ/kg.K). Q3. In a diesel engine, the air is compressed in a polytropic process from a pressure of 100 kPa at 300K to 1/16th of its initial volume. The process can be described as Pv1.25 = C. Determine the followings: (i) The final pressure and temperature of the air (ii) Work done on the gas (iii) The heat loss Q4. Air is compressed reversible from 100 kPa to 500 kPa. Compare the work required for this compression through following processes: (i) Heating at constant volume followed by cooling at constant pressure (ii) Isothermal compression at 300K (iii) Adiabatic compression followed by cooling at constant volume. Given Cp = 29.302 kJ/mol-K Q5. A closed batch reactor with a volume of 0.2 m3 contains saturated steam at 0.2 MPa. Due to improper insulation, heat is heat is transferred to the surrounding as loss. Due to this thermal loss, the pressure of the batch reactor is dropped to 0.15 MPa. Determine the following and draw the p-v diagram of this process: (i) Change in temperature of the steam due to the heat loss. (ii) Quality of the steam in the final pressure. (iii) Masses of the liquid and vapor at the final pressure.
