An irregular plurals in the
Early Modern English
is the handful of mutate-
vowel plurals;

William Shakespeare
(1564-1616) is without a doubt one of the grea
writers of the English language.
Shakespeare used it in his plays. Negatives w
no longer marked with the older ‘ne’ but inste
by ‘not’.

Preposition
Prepositions acquired a somewhat greater
importance than they had had in Old English.
Even in Old English times, on was sometimes
reduced in compound words like abutan
(now about)

Verbs
Throughout the history of English, the
strong verbs-always a minority-have
fought a losing battle, having either
joined the ranks
of the weak verbs or been lost
altogether.

Adverb / Adjective
Adjectives and adverbs continued to form
comparatives with -er and superlatives with
-est, but increasingly they used analytical
comparison with mo(e) or more and with
most,
which had occurred as early as Old English
times.
