7. Testing
All soil, waste and vent pipes shall be tested by filling up the whole or part of stack with water. All
openings for connections, etc., shall be suitably plugged. The total head shall, however, not exceed
3 metres.
Contractor shall remove and replace all pipes having holes, cracks, etc. All leaking joints and
access doors shall be replaced or remade to the entire satisfaction of the Engineer. Water shall be
retained in stack for a minimum period of 2 hours. After all plumbing fixtures are installed,
Contractor shall apply the smoke test to the entire stack to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
1. General
A high quality and style is expected of these units, the items should be of approved make from
manufacturers of standing. These shall conform to relevant British, German or American
standards.
It is specified Duravit (Dune) Germany Made /Ideal standard (Sanremo) or equal and approved by
the engineer.
The approved Mixers for whole of the building is Grohe Germany made. Contractor shall submit
samples along with catalogue for approval.
2. Plumbing
All exposed piping and trim for plumbing fixtures shall be chrome plated and fully protected
during installation. Plumbing fixtures shall be complete with all required trimming, including
faucets, waste plugs, traps, supplies, stop valves, escutcheons, easing and all necessary hangers,
plates, brackets, anchors and supports. All sanitary units fixtures, fittings, pipes, etc., should be
well-protected upto handing over of site. All fixtures shall be fixed with heavy chromium plated
brass screws with washers wherever necessary.
3. Water Closets
European water closet suites shall comprise white glazed fire clay pan with 'P' or 'S' trap with
89mm bore outlet, high or low level flushing cistern and flush pipes 32mm (high level) or 38mm
(low level) etc., complete as described in the manufacturers recommendations.
The units shall have non-corroding valve less siphon 13mm low-pressure valve and other union,
20mm overflow union, either flushing handle knob or pull and chain as approved.
4. Basin Mixer
Single lever basin mixer should be manufactured from well-proven metals & Modern plastic
materials, non-metallic materials coming in contact with Portable water should be chosen for their
resistance to support of microbial growth. Projection of spout should be 118mm & not less. The
mixer should incorporate the WSVC (water saving variable control) Cartridge, Hot water
Limit stop & should confirm to BS EN 817. The fitting should be coated In durable chrome plate.

12.06 Testing:
When the installation has been completed to the satisfaction of the Engineer it shall be tested in the
following manner:
a. The entire system shall be slowly filled with water, allowing any trapped air to escape.
b. When all outlets are closed the system shall be checked for rate of flow and correct operation.
12.07 Sewerage:
1. Pipes
All sewer lines below ground shall be of Un-plasticised PVC pipes. Positions of such pipes shall
generally be shown on the drawings. The colour of all pipes shall be approved by the Engineer.
2. Un-plasticised PVC
Where UPVC pipes are specified, these shall generally be as shown on the drawings. Un-
plasticised PVC pipes and fittings shall conform to BS 4660: 1973. The pipes and fittings shall be
of approved manufacture.
3. Laying Pipes
Pipes must only be laid in accordance with the manufacturer's instruction on a prepared bed to suit
site conditions and not on the undisturbed trench bottom. Care must be taken to ensure that rock
projections do not penetrate the bed. The thickness of the compacted bedding under the barrels of
the pipes should be minimum of 100mm thick. Joint holes should be formed in the granular
bedding and they should be as short as practicable. On completion there should be however, a
minimum depth of 50mm of granular material beneath the joints.
Pipes must be laid in straight lines, true to gradients each pipe being boned in between sight rails
all in accordance with the procedures laid down in BS 8301: 1985. Blocks or battens must not be
used to bring the pipe line to gradient. After jointing the pipe line must be capable of withstanding
the air or water test for tightness required by BS 8301.
Side filling consisting of the same materials as for bedding, must be placed compacted equally on
both sides of the pipe to full trench width in approximately 100mm stages, and hand rammed at
each stage. Filling shall continue to 200mm above crown of pipe. Where pipes are located under
roads or other surfaces exposed to the passage of traffic, they shall be provided with concrete
protection as directed by the Engineer.
The Contractor must inform the Engineer when side filling of the jointed pipes has reached crown
level to allow for inspection of the side fill to observe air or water tests as appropriate and to carry
out any other random checks.

The Contractor shall locate and remedy all defects before further pipe laying proceeds, and shall
repeat the test until a satisfactory test is obtained. Where a length of pipe under test terminates at a
manhole, the restriction on further pipe laying will not apply. The Contractor shall provide and fix
testing branches and bend as required and shall seal off or remove them as directed by the
Engineer.
6. Gully Traps
Gully traps and gratings wherever necessary shall be sound, free from fine cracks, etc. They shall
be made of un-plasticised PVC and shall be of an approved make and quality with 75mm water
seal. They shall be housed in masonry chambers of 300mm X 300mm internal size.
