5. As you can see, there is a norman-style house.

The Normans built homes made of wooden frames

filled with a mixture of mud, dung, and straw. On the other hand, the Normans built some of the first
stone castles in England as in the first slide Hanna mentioned. And there you can see a traditional
norman church.

7. When William became king, he established the feudal system. It put everyone into a sort of queue
depending on their place in society and explained to whom they needed to pay money or tribute to
have a house or to grow food.

 The king was at the front of the queue and owned all the land in England. He then gave land
to the nobles, who could give the king knights and money if he needed it.

 The nobles were allowed to rent out the land that the king gave them to the knights, who
protected and provided for the nobles, and went into battle if the nobles told them to.

 The knights could rent out the land they were given to serfs at the end of the queue. They
could never leave their master’s manor and worked for the knights without getting paid.
Serfs pretty much had to do whatever the knight asked – they even had to ask permission if
they wanted to get married.

 Peasants owned no land, but they worked on lands owned by nobles or knights
