In this comparison it is advisable to start from the following out- _Outstandiny standing features of RYDSA 20. fe RYDSA 20 a} "Harmonic Restraint" (HR) which gives secure stabilization against both magnetizing inrush currents and abnormal no~losd currents, for exemple, caused by high voltages (the stabiliza- tion is fox RYDSA 20 common to all three phases and it is de- termined by that phase which has the largest magnetizing inrush current and no-load current). b) Very short operating time. ©) Very low operating current. 4) Low power consumption: < 0,1 VA. e) Small space requirements. ‘The whole protection is housed in one case anc therefore mounting and wiring is simple, Insensitive to vibrations and chocks. But in a compérison with other makes, RYDSA 20 can be consi- dered to have draubscks, for example 8) RYDSA 20 is not of draw-out type. h) RYDSA 20 generally requires separate auxiliary current trans~ formers. ‘The different makes according to the tables on pages 5~6 can with —_Claasification of respect to the magnetizing inrush stabilization and the operating the protections time be classified acconding to the following. In the follow- ing there is a comparison between RYDSA 20 snd other makes according to the points a-h under "Outstanding features” above, Fox qualified use (larger transformers) it can only be a matter of comparing Highly qualitied RYDSA 20 with protections according to A (or ouly Al}. age large ransformers) a) RYDSA 20 is with respect to HR not only equal to other makes, it ts prac~ tically alone in having HR even agains! abnormal no-load current.’ Con cerning the content of second harmonic for secure stabilization (RYDSA 20 20%), only Westinghouse (HU) are quoted with a lower value (15%). Reyrolle @C21), Siemens {RT22a) and AEG (RQ4) also have HE common to all phases, in common with RYDSA 20. b) With regard to the operating time RYDSA 20 ic ouporios to the competitors” make indiested under AL. In this comparison too much consideration should not be paid to the fact that certain tynes require a separate anxiliary relay since that type of relay oan nowadays be very quick-acting. It is also doubt~ ful how much value fast tripping with additional over-current trip "CC-trip" should be considered to have. ¢) Regarding the lowest operating eurrent (of less importance), RYDSA 20s equal to the other types under A. A lower setting is only available from BBC (Dz se) and English Electric (DM). 4) ‘The power consumption for all the types, particularly under A1, 1s so low that the varietions are of no practical importance, e) Less space requirement (projection surface of the front of the panel) then that of RYDSA 20 is only available from BBC (D-21):and Siemens (RT 22a}. ‘The single-phase American protections in particular, require much mora space on the front of the panel and have more extensive mounting and wiring. 8) In addition to RYDSA 20, only Stemens (RT22}, AEG (RQ#) and C.d,C, do not have a draw-out type, However, in RYDSA 20 certain important com- Fonents are of the plug-in type and thereby easily interchangeable: 1) GE-types, Westinghouse (HU and CA but not CA 4 et. ) and (on request) Buglish Electric type DMH heve reley coils (or built-in auxiliary current transformore) with extra terminals and change-over switches, Main current transformers with a standazd ratio can in that case be used without separate auxiliary current transformers with 2 specially adapted ratio. ‘These protections (exeept CA) have terminals for 8 different currents {9 terminals) both on the restraining. windings (2 and 3 per phase depending on whether it is 2 two- or three-winding transformer, respectively) and on the differential windings. ‘The used current terminal for each restraint winding should be comnected by means of a contact pin to the corresponding current terminal on the . differential winding so that the stabitization degree required ig obtained, independently of the used current teymiral, That means more complicated windings and comecting arrangements which cause a price increase and requires more space. RFR April 1969 Edition 1 3 ASEA Non-qualified use Sources for the comparisoa deta When reading the relay instructions the conclusion may be that these torminal arrangements do not exclude wrong connections which can cause both mwanted operations and overheating of parts of the windings. Anyhow, the problem of tapped ooils contra special auxiliary current transformers is perhaps primarily s question of price, RYDSA 26 is technically the most exact equivalent to the following types: Siemens (RT22a) BEC (D-) English Electric (DME) Westinghouse (HU) General Electric (BDD) RYDSA 2¢ is superior with regard to HR and fast operating time. The others (exoopt Siemens) are of drewout type but HU and BDD require con- siderable space and DME requires current transformers with a specially high saturation factor, When trying to make @ comparison between RYDSA 20 and other makes listed under A2, and especially C and D for a less qualified use, another kind of evaluation of the quelities of RYDSA 20 must he used. In this case space requirements may he of great importance and the question of price to0, ‘The data in the tables are from the following sources: Siemens Slemens Prelsliste R13, March 1962 AEO AEG's pamphlet H 7534-10, August 1960 BEC (D-se) BBC Preisliste AB 309 b, March 1966 BEC Pamphlet $106 D (1.65) BBC-Mitteilangen No, 11/12-1966, page 753 BBC-Nachrichten, April 1966, page 260 BBC (TG) BBC-Iniormation AK 90020 D end others Oerlikon Bulletin Oerlikon June 1983, page 8 Oerlikon Information A 340727-D ©.4.C.
