Interestingly I wonder why in the last para-foil stage the crew cabin wasn't just ejected for land

The last manifest that included the X-38 flight demo was the 28 August 2001 FAWG. By then it was on STS-116,
OV-102.

Redudancy docked to the ISS is also useful though. Too much money to be viable, but if your do
MMOD, and you need to evac.....But yes, the chances are slim at best.
