DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

CONTENT STANDARD
The learner will be able to understand the key concepts of geometry of shapes
and sizes and geometric relationships.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding on how to create models
of plane figures and formulate and solve accurately authentic problems
involving sides and angles of a polygon.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
a. define circle and terms related to it;
b. illustrate the different terms related to circle; and
c. develop the value of determination in acquiring the skill.

II. Subject Matter

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
a. Prayer
“May I request everyone to please (Students follow what their
stand for a prayer to be lead by teacher requested to them)
Angel.” Angel: “Let us all put ourselves
in the presence of the Lord as we
say, In the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit, Amen. “Our Father…”
(Everyone is praying.)
b. Greeting
“Good Morning Class...” “Good Morning Sir!”

“Before you may take your seats,

kindly pick up some pieces of
paper under your armchair.” ‘Yes Sir”

c. Checking of Attendance

“Please go back to your

permanent seat because I will (Students go back to their
check your attendance according proper seats)
to your seat plan.”

d. Setting of Standards

“During our class discussion I “Yes Sir”

want all of you to listen carefully
and participate, am I clear?”

e. Review
Who can recall on what we had Charm: Last meeting we
discussed last meeting? Yes, discussed about polygons.
Charm?

What are polygons? Janice: Polygons are plane figure

formed by three or more
segments such that each
segments intersects with exactly
two others and no segments
Very good Janice. with a common endpoint are
collinear.
Who can give examples of
polygons? Irene: The examples of polygons
are Triangles, Quadrilaterals,
Thank you Irene. Pentagon, Hexagon, Heptagon,
Octagon, Nonagon, Decagon and
Is there any question about our etc.
last topic?
“None Sir!”
B. Lesson Proper
a. Motivation
“This morning we will discuss
another lesson but before we will
proceed to our proper discussion
let us have first a game. I will
divide the class into two groups.
This side will be the Group 1 and
the other side will be the Group
2. This game is entitled “Fix Me
Up!”

All you have to do is to guess the

hidden word of the scrambled
letters flashed on the screen.
Each word has the allotted time
of 10 seconds, the group got the
highest correct answer will be
considered as winner. NOTE, in
every correct answer has two (2)
points.
Write your answers on the strip
paper provided.

“Yes Sir”
Am I clear class?

(Students Answers)
Scrambled letters:
1.) CIRCLE
1.) ERICLC 2.) RADIUS
2.) SUIRAD 3.) DIAMETER
3.) RETEMAID 4.) CHORD
4.) ROCHD 5.) CENTER
5.) ERCENT 6.) CENTRAL ANGLE
6.) LACENTR LEANG

And the winner is…..

Students are doing clapping.
Thank you for your cooperation
class! Let’s give ourselves a
round of applause!

Possible answers of the

students:
b. Presentation of the new Topic
Based on the activity earlier what  computation
have you observe?  solving
 shapes
 parts of the circle
Very Good!
Alright! This morning we will
discuss Circle and the Terms
Related to it.
But before that these are the
following objectives:
a. define circle and terms related
to it;
b. illustrate the different terms
related to circle; and
c. develop the value of
determination in acquiring the Students are reading the
skill. objectives.

Again what are the objectives?

c. Discussion

A. Circles
I. Activity 1 (2minutes)
I have here a bond paper, what
you are going to do is to draw a “Yes Sir!”
point in the middle of it. Now,
using a ruler, mark 20 other
points that are 5 cm away from
the first point. Compare your Students output
work with that of your seatmates.

Janice: “A circle.”

What shape do you recognize?

Angel: For me, a circle is a
Very Good! It’s a circle. Now who has an perfectly round shape.
idea about circle? Anyone?
Yes Angel?

Very good idea!

In other words, circle is the set of all

points that are the same distance from a (expected drawing)
fixed point. This fixed point is called the
center of the circle.

Who can draw a circle?

Very Good!

I have here a circle, what do you see inside

the circle? Irene? Irene: I can see a point located
at the center of the circle.
O

There is a point at the center of the circle

this point is called the center or the
central point. Circles are named through
their central point. So, what is the name of Expected answer: “Circle O”
this circle?

Very Good!
B. Terms Related to Circles

The following are terms that are

related to circles.
1. Radius
2. Chord
3. Diameter
4. Central angle

These are the four terms related to circles.

Now, who can define what is radius?
Yes! Vannesa.
Very good!

 Radius – is a segment drawn from

any point on the circle to the center.
It is one-half the length of the
diameter and its symbol is lower
case r.

Note: All radii (plural of radius) in a

circle have equal length.
(Answers may vary)
How about Chord?
Yes! Yvonn.
Very good!

 Chord – is a segment that connects

any two points of a circle.

How about Diameter and central angle?

Very good idea! Clare.

 Diameter – is a chord that passes

through the center of a circle. It is
the longest chord of a circle and it is
twice the length of a circle’s radius.
 Central angle – is an angle whose
vertex is on the circle’s center, and
whose sides intersect the circle at
two points.

Based on the definition who can

illustrate the radius, chord,
diameter and central angle in
circle O?
(Expected drawing)

Very good class! So, these are the

illustrations of the different terms related
to circles. Do you have any questions?
Clarifications? If there’s none lets proceed
to another activity.

d. Application (3 minutes)

Activity: (Who Nose)

Direction: Identify the radius,
chord, diameter, and central
angle. None Sir!

An electronic and
communication engineer
designed a circular disk to be put
up in a call center building.
Before he installs the disk, he let
his men check the disk and its
parts. Supposed, I am the
engineer and you are my working
men, what are now the parts of
the circular disk?
In the same group, you will be
given only 5 minutes to do the
task. Afterwards, choose your
representative to explain your
work.
Note: Two (2) points each in every
correct answer.

Your time starts now!

Charm: Our Group’s answer is
Okay time is up!

Radius HG, HF, HA

May I call on the representative Chord BC, DE, FG
of the group A to please stand Diameter FG
and tell us what you’ve done? Central angle ∠ AHG ,∠ FHA
The rest of the group please
listen and check your answers.
(Students are clapping.)
Very Good. All groups did it
correctly. So everybody clap
yourselves. Charm: As a recap, a circle is
the set of all points in a plane
that are the same distance from
a fixed point called the center.
e. Generalization/Valuing The parts or the terms related to
So, who will give now the recap of circle are center or central point,
the things that we have radius, diameter, chord, and
discussed today? central angle.

Angel: For me sir, circle is used

Based on the discussion we have in our daily lives like the
can you cite any experience of different things that we used in
yours on how circles are used in our house like clocks, circular
our daily lives? Yes Angel? plates, circular tables and
chairs.

Very good Angel! (students share their insights )

Anyone who has another idea to

share?

Very Good class. You really Yes sir!

understand our lesson for this
morning.

Are you guys ready for a test?

IV. Evaluation (5minutes)

On a 1/4 piece of paper, draw a circle and construct the given points,
segments and angles below.

Center I
Radius IE, IF
Chord AD, BD, CA, CB
Diameter AB, CD
Central angle ∠ AIG ,∠ BIH

V. Assignment
