As a learner
I am interested in making video training but lacking ideas and techniques, so I chose the
‘Creating Fun and Engaging Video Training: the Why’ course. After taking the course, I have
learned the key elements of making an effective and engaging video, including format,
message, energy, audience and attention reset.

Writing a clear outline and script to organize the content of the video are important, they can
keep me on track and make it easy for the audience to understand what I am saying. In every
script there should be a message and intent, such as letting the audience learn something, so it
is important to keep the audience's attention. To retain audience attention and persuade them
what I am saying. Connecting with them is essential, treat audiences as one person, be
interactive and personal. Stay energized to grab the audience's attention and ask questions
that are relevant to them. Attention resets can also capture the audience's attention with visual
and auditory stimuli, such as text, screenshots and sound effects.

Making videos alone can be inefficient, time consuming and no one is good at everything.
With the resources and funding available, it is better to work with a dedicated team, as
different people will focus on the roles they are good at for better results. For example,
copywriters can write a compelling script to engage audiences, videographers can take a good
angle and guide me to where I need to increase my energy and editors can add subtitles,
animations and background music to make the video more engaging. Despite that video can
be done quickly with the support of a dedicated team, they can be expensive, so consider the
advantages and disadvantages before hiring them.

Apart from creating a well-written script, capturing the audience's attention and working with
a dedicated team. A suitable filming location is also important, filming in a place that is
relevant to the content of the video and related to the audiences. In addition, some equipment
such as props and costumes can be prepared to make the video more attractive and engaging.
Also, I understand the necessity of setting a time frame for making the video, schedule a
shooting date so everyone on the team is there, and set a deadline for submitting the final
video so that there is a clear schedule.

To a large extent, I have achieved the learning objectives of this course. I understand the
importance of writing an outline and script, planning out the purpose and objectives of the
video, so that the video can be shot more smoothly. And I learn how to keep the audience's
attention so they can really learn and be inspired by my video. I also learned the technique of
attention resets, keeping my audiences in anticipation, so they will pay attention to what I am
going to say. I know it is not easy to make a video alone, if I have the resources, I will work
with a dedicated team. I cannot wait to make my own video training with these skills and
techniques.

As a trainer
In the perspective of a trainer, I think the course design and implementation of ‘Creating Fun
and Engaging Video Training: the Why’ is effective and meet its learning objective. The
purpose of this course is to teach the trainees the skills to produce engaging video training,
and I believe the trainees will be able to learn the skills and be inspired to use them in the
future.

In terms of course design, the trainer gives an overview of the course at the beginning so that
the trainees have a brief understanding and preparation of what is going to be learned. Apart
from that, the content of the course is well-organized, and the trainer had to point out and
explain the skills and key points in detail, for instance why do we write the script, how to
attract the audience, what equipment to prepare and who to work with. This makes it easier
for trainees to understand the content, especially for beginners. The video also shows some
pictures and text to emphasize the point and make it easier for trainees to understand the
points.

In terms of implementation, the trainer familiarizes herself with the learning material she is
discussing and prepares meaningful learning content for the course so that the trainees can
better understand the content. In addition, the trainer also has a positive attitude, being
supportive and encouraging. For example, she said that even trainees do not have
professional equipment and a team they can still produce engaging videos, which enhance
trainees’ confidence and evoke their curiosity to learn. Also, her tone of voice is professional
and friendly, persuading trainees to listen.

Nonetheless, the course design and implementation are well done. I have some suggestions to
improve the effectiveness of the course. If I were to design the course, I would use
microlearning to help trainees retain and recall content. I would include some activities that
trainers can engage in and reflect what they have just learned, for example, using checklists
and quizzes, but not one person says it all the time because not all trainees are able to focus
throughout the course. Microlearning not only motivates trainees to learn, but also keeps
them engaged and focused during the course.

Furthermore, I would like to include a concept map in the video, showing the concept map at
the beginning and the end of the course. The purpose of showing the concept map at the
beginning is to give the trainee a brief idea of what they will be learning. They can learn
faster after consolidating the concepts. And the purpose of showing the concept map at the
end is to make a recap to the trainees and thus build a long term memory of the knowledge. In
this way, trainees can fully understand the relationship between the concepts represented by
the connecting lines after the class.

To conclude, I think the ‘Creating Fun and Engaging Video Training: the Why’ course is
inspiring, educative and engaging. This video is effective for beginners to learn new concepts
or knowledge.
