ARM 28 105 [A.2820]

Letter from Šadum-Labua (king of Ašnakkum) to his lord (= Zimri-Lim). Šadum-Labua complains to Zimri-Lim that he does not receive the troops he
keeps asking for, despite his calls for merhûm and Itur-Asdu; Šubram appears to have a role in the current affairs. Šadum-Labua promises the sovereign
to send him news about the mountaineers (of the Tûr Abdîn); he also announces to him the arrest of a certain Ašublanum, and his imminent departure
for Mari.

(4) I heard the tablet that my lord made me carry. About sending troops to my house, (5) I keep writing to my lord continually, (6) but my lord does not
send me troops and he does not strengthen his city, (7) saying “Here I wrote to the merhûm; (8) the merhûm will send troops to you. » (9) My servants
have become tired from going to the merhûm (10) and I have exhausted the clay of Ašnakkum for the tablets which I carry tirelessly. (11) He sends me no
troops; so I continue to write similarly to Itûr-Asdû (12) in these terms: (13) "Send me (12) twenty troops in addition to the men that my lord (13) has left
(12) to guard Ašnakkum, (13) so that they guard the city of my lord! (14) As I had written this to him, he only sent ten men, which is a joke. (15) Because I
myself was in despair to send message after message, I spoke to them (16) in these terms: “Since you do not believe me, I will go to my lord; (17) take (in
hand) [the city] from your lord! This is what I said to them, (18) but these men do not listen to my words; they do not send me troops (19) and they delay
me.
(20) Previously, mountaineers had gathered and (21) [prepared] (20) to attack me. (21) A man in secret came out and (22) […] (21) for me personally and
(for) the guard of the city. (22) For 10 days, I lifted the torch; (23) my enemy saw (22) that I had made my arrangements (23) and that I was not
[negligent], and he disbanded. (24) [Now] either the merhûm or Itûr-Asdû (25) must send (24) troops to my aid. (25) If myself and Šubram, our forces
(26) had not joined, the country would have been lost for my lord. (27) […], your servant, resides with me and (28) he wants to take […], God forbid! […]

hold the city (12') and I will not be able to rivet his nail to my adversary, my lord (13') must make sure to send me ( 12') troops. (14') When I see (13') my
lord's servants (14') serving Šubram, my heart aches; (15') also it is necessary that my lord send me likewise his servants so that they are at my service.
(16') In connection with what my lord said to me previously: “The information that your brothers (17') constantly hear around them, they keep sending
them to me; (18') now, you, (19') send me regularly (18') in the same way as your brothers the information you hear”, (19') I have just written in the land

(21') Something else. Concerning Ašublânum about which you wrote to me, this man is only rebellions, (22') my lord knows it. He and Ibâl-Addu prowled
around me, (23') but my lord's guardian angel protected me; I arrested this man and (24') so that his money does not disappear and (because of) the
things he did with Ibâl-Addu, (25') I entrusted it to Itûr -Asdû saying: “This man must remain alive (26') until he is made to testify with Ibâl-Addu before
my lord. » (27') Now, his money, his gold and his possessions, even before I arrest him, (28') have been taken from the goods at his disposal from which I
had to evict him. (29') He is on hot coals (30') and he does not stop writing (29') to Ibâl-Addu, Ili-Lim, (30') Urgiš (and) Šinah. (31') This man must not
live:
(32') Moreover, for what my lord wrote to me saying: "Come for (the feast of) Eštar, (33') the feast of Eštar has been delayed", my coming to my lord is
