3 Testing
3.1 Description of operating modes
CDM8240 supports 3 operating modes:
1. Normal operating mode: default mode after power-up. In this mode, ATMC can
execute various commands to CDM8240N, and the nixie tube displays 00, as shown
below:

2. Test mode: this mode is required when ToolPlus is used for cash out and main motor
control. At this moment, the nixie tube displays 00., as shown below:

Note:
In test mode, ATMC can not dispense any cash, so normal operating mode must be
recovered after the test is completed.
 Method to enter the test mode from normal operating mode:
In normal operating mode, press the blue button on the control panel until the two
LEDs flicker, and then release it. When LEDs stop flickering, it indicates the mode
has been switched to the test mode, and cash dispensing function can be normally
used for operation. As shown in the figure above, when LEDL is on and LEDs
display 00., it has entered the test mode.
 Method to return to the normal operating mode from test mode:
In test mode, press the blue button on the control panel until the two LEDs flicker,
and then release it. When LEDs stop flickering and display 00, it indicates the mode
has been switched to the normal operating mode and the normal operating state has
been recovered.

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 15-30

Test mode is available to firmware above v3.0 only.
3. ODS mode: the operating mode to operate the CDM8240N without connecting to the
host. Refer to Instructions for Offline Maintenance and Error Code Application of
CDM for detailed operation.
 Method to enter ODS mode from normal operating mode:
In normal operating mode, press the two white buttons on the control panel until the
two LEDs flicker, and then release them. When LEDs stop flickering, it indicates the
mode has been switched to the test mode, and cash dispensing function can be
normally used for operation. As shown in the figure above, when LEDL is on and
LEDs display 0.0, it has entered ODS mode.

od to return to the normal operating mode from ODS mode:

In test mode, press the two white buttons on the control panel until the two LEDs
flicker, and then release them. When LEDs stop flickering and display 00, it
indicates the mode has been switched to the normal operating mode and the normal
operating state has been recovered.

Note:
In ODS mode, CDM8240N will not respond to any communication command
from any upper layer (including ATMC and ToolPlus), therefore, it must be returned to
the normal operating mode after the test is completed.
3.2 Start test program
First, confirm the communication cable is well connected and CDM8240N is normally
powered up.
Open CDM8240N.exe, and input the correct user name and password. If error windows
like “Initialization of serial port failed” or “MB and NV communication setting failed”
pop up, it indicates the serial port does not exist or has been occupied. The solution is as
follows.
(1) Click “Confirm” to pop up the main interface of the test program, click “set” in the
menu bar and then click “Communication setting”, select the correct serial port ID or

communication mode, and then click “Confirm”. If failed again, execute step 2.
(2) Call the task manager, kill all the processes occupying the serial port or USB port
(generally such processes are the following residual processes: CDM8240N.exe,
GRGCOM~1.EXE, GRGLOG~1.EXE), and then restart the test program. If no error
prompt, the test program is successfully started.

Note:
If the prompt of NV communication setting failed is given, but NV function is not
used or NV related operation is not required at this moment, you can ignore it.
3.3 Test commands
3.3.1 General test

“General test” includes all test items, and its functions are as follows:
Cash dispensing authority– used to obtain the command authorities for delivery,
pre-delivery, dispensing, recycle test, motor control, thickness self-calibration and NV
related settings. The operating method for obtaining the authority is clicking the button,

Refer to section 6 for the method to enter test mode. Return to the normal operating
mode after the test is completed.
(2) Enter the number to be dispensed. The total number shall not be more than 100 or
equal to 0, or a corresponding error code will be given.
(3) Do not select dispensing from a slot position without cassette, or a corresponding
error code will be given.
(4) If “TestDispense” is selected, all dispensed notes will be dispensed to the reject
vault.
(5) 5 dispensing modes are available (please refer to the dispensing option above)
To PES – Notes are delivered to the note presenter directly.
To PCS – Notes are delivered to the PCS hold position.
Out of PES – Notes are delivered to the note presenter and then dispensed directly.

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 18-30

Note:
This mode can be used in test only. In order to ensure the normal
application of the function, front/rear service mode of CDM8240N shall be
configured in GRGDTATM_CommCfg.ini file.

To BRFS – Notes are delivered to the note presenter and then rejected to the reject
vault.
To SCS – Notes are delivered to the stacking zone.
(6) Dispensing results will be returned to the information display box. In case of error,
corresponding processing prompt will be displayed on the graphical interface.
(7) If “OCR” check box is checked, it is a must to start NV function of the CDM8240N
and connect test tools with NV control board via USB cables. After dispensing,
OCR Crown Size of all notes can be obtained and OCR images can be saved.
Recycle test – in recycle test function, it is possible to set “Interval Time”, “Random
Max”, “LimitAmount” and “LimitTimes”. Three modes are available:
(1) Run: it is a recycle dispense mode in which the dispense amount is subject to the
amount set for each slot position.
(2) Random: When using this function, you must check one of the check boxes from
Slot position 1 to Slot position 6. Dispensing will be executed only when the
selected slot position exists. Dispense amount can be set within the range of 1~100.
(3) New Cycle: When “New Cycle” check box is checked and no check box under
“RandomDisp.” is checked, it will enter “New Cycle” mode. In this mode, the
maximum dispense amount of all slot positions can be set within the range of
1~100, but dispensing will be executed only when the selected slot position exists.
Then, check the slot positions needing dispensing one by one according to the
sequence from 1 to 6. For example, if the dispense amount from slot position 1 to
slot position 4 are set as 100, and all the slot positions have cassettes, the notes in
slot position 1 will be dispensed first. After all the notes in slot position 1 are
dispensed, slot position 2 starts to dispense notes, and so forth, until all the slot
positions complete note dispensing.
ClearMsg – to clear all the information display on the graphical interface and in the
information display box.

3.3.2 Parameter setting

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 20-30

In order to ensure that the CDM8240N can be normally used, the operator must correctly
set all the parameters.
1 General parameter setting
(1) For the convenience of parameter setting, the operator may select corresponding
currency in the "Currency" box and select corresponding amount, and then wait for
the test tool to automatically display the length, width and thickness data of such
note. In case of any incorrect data, the operator may directly change such data in
relevant box, and then click “Set1” button to set cassette parameter(s). If no
corresponding currency is found, the operator may select user-defined currency and
manually enter the length, width and thickness data of such note, and then continue
the rest settings. For general parameter, the operator should enter relevant data
according to the size of note actually applied. Otherwise, any error occurred to the
general parameter will cause failure of cash dispensing. If “New cassette” parameter
checkbox is checked, the operator should set the cassette parameters according to
new parameter setting command(s). In such case, the operator must select
corresponding currency and amount.
(2) If the communication is normal, the tool will automatically obtain and display the
general parameters when the operator opens the “Set Para” interface. The tool can
also obtain and display the general parameters when the operator clicks “Get2”.
2 Slot InOut flag
The operator may select to clear all the cassette InOut flag of all the corresponding slots
or to clear such flags corresponding to an individual slot. The operator may select such
slot and click “Clear” button to clear the relevant flag(s).
3 Reject vault parameter

4 Handling note jamming
Note:
* The operator should carefully operate and should not pull the note to avoid tearing
the note. And
* Pay attention to the edges of relevant machine and parts to avoid personal harm.

4.1 Note jamming in note picking mechanism

4.1.1 Note jamming in inner channel of note picking mechanism

Note: there may be two cases of note jamming in note picking mechanism. One case is
that most part of the note is in inner channel entrance and can be taken out when the
operator rotates the feeding rubber wheel reversely. Another case is that the entire note or
part of its end is in the inner channel. In the latter case, the operator should not directly
pull the note out. Instead, he or she should first try to rotate the feeding rubber wheel in
forward direction. And then, when the note is still not presented to exit of the note
picking mechanism, the operator should rotate both the feeding rubble wheel and the
transportation knob to cause the note to be presented to the back channel of the note
picking mechanism or to the transportation system from which the note can be taken out.

A. When the note is in inner channel B. When the entire note or part of its end is
entrance as shown in the figure above, in the inner channel as shown in the figure
the operator should rotate the feeding above, the operator should first try to rotate
rubber wheel reversely to take out the the feeding rubber wheel in forward
note; direction. And then, when the note is still not
presented to exit of the note picking
mechanism, the operator should rotate both
the feeding rubble wheel and the

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 23-30

transportation knob to cause the note to be
presented to the back channel of the note
picking mechanism or to the transportation
system from which the note can be taken out.

C. In case of note jamming in the joint part of the note picking mechanism and NV, the
operator should open the upper cover of NV and rotate main-channel knob to cause the
note to be presented to the channel of note picking mechanism. Then, the operator may
take out the note and close the upper cover. After taking out all the notes in the
transportation system, the operator should use ODS or ToolPlus test program for
initialization to ensure that all the notes are taken out and the CDM8240N can run
operate again.

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 24-30

D. When the note is jammed in inner or outer channel of the note picking mechanism
and cannot be taken out by common methods, the operator may take down the note
picking mechanism according to the steps described here. The operator may first take
down synchronous belt used for power transportation of outer channel, open the plastic
buckle, then, rotate the note picking mechanism outward for about 80 degrees, and
finally lift upward and take down the mechanism.

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 25-30

4.1.2 Note jamming in outer channel of note picking mechanism

In this case, the operator may rotate the main-channel knob to NV position, turn up the
upper cover of NV, and take out the note. Or, the operator may try to take out the note
from outer side of the two transportation belts and meanwhile press down floating
tightening shaft of the outer channel to reduce belt pre-tightening force.

left figure below) and take out the note (see the right figure below), and finally make the
handle back to its original status.

1. open the cover of handle; 2. The operator should use handwheel to

move the stacker to its highest place, and
then take out the note;

4.2.2 When presenter is installed at the front (Front Access Type)

In case of note jamming in stacker, the operator should first pull out the limit shaft under
the presenter, and rotate the presenter downward. Then, the operator should rotate the
connection part of channels upward and take out the notes. Meanwhile, he or she may
rotate the channel handwheel to help taking out the note (as shown in the right figure
below). Finally, the operator should make the presenter back to its original status.
