This Part of BS 7251 has been prepared by Technical Committee CH/25. It is

identical with ISO 7206-9:1994 Implants for surgery — Partial and total hip joint
prostheses — Part 9: Determination of resistance to torque of head fixation of
stemmed femoral components, published by the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO).
Textual error. When adopting the text of the International Standard, the
textual error given below was discovered. It has been marked in the text and has
been reported to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in a
proposal to amend the text of the International Standard.
In clause 1, paragraph 1, line 7 “head and arm” should be “head and neck”.

The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of ISO 7206-1 to which
normative reference is made in the text and has decided that they are acceptable
for use in conjunction with this standard. A related British Standard to
ISO 7206-1 is BS 7251-3:1990 Orthopaedic joint prostheses —
Part 3: Specification for classification, designation of dimensions and
requirements for hip joint prostheses.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a

Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity

from legal obligations.
