PROBLEM OF STATEMENT

 To what extent does crime and criminal activity create problems for members of your

community.

4
REASON OF INVESTIGATING THIS AREA OF RESEARCH

 I chose this topic for various reasons, I’ve lived 17 Years in this community (Santa Cruz,

Trinidad). While living here I have been open to a lot of shoot out killings which resulted to

death over the large amount of drugs, guns and turf(land). So when I saw the opportunity to

speak on such I quickly grabbed it. I have then decided to investigate on why theirs so much

crime in my community for my school based assignment(SBA).

PROCEDURES USED TO COLLECT DATA

This following task was quite difficult trying to collect all of the answered survey question from

peers with in my community, I ran into a technical difficulty problem with the questioner but it

was quickly resolved. The survey only comprised of a maximum of 15 questions, they were

mostly “yes” or “no” questions, except for 1, 3, 7, 8,9,10,11,14 and 15 these were questions that

needed to be answered truthfully. When collecting the data, I did it accordingly to age groups

because I was sure I wont be able to get every individual feed back. I completed this task in

groups of 5. Each group had 13 individuals who received the survey. The majority of people who

completed this survey were mostly between the age groups of 13 to 50. I had no problems with

explaining the questionnaire to each group. In total, only 65 peers completed this survey in my

area, out of a population of 1300.

RECOMMENDATION

• Government should put into consideration a strict curfew time for teens to not be

out at late hours of the night. If caught, the Child parents will be fined a small fee

of $125.00 tt. Hopefully, when parents do find out, they will try their best to keep

them in side before curfew hours.

• Gang members/ leaders should try to influence younger teenagers not to joining gangs

therefore, it can only lead to a life of jail or death. This implements an earlier decision

given to the teenagers who has thought about joining a gang, a future look at themselves

from an adult prisoner who has experienced the difficulties, hopefully, this can change their
minds.

• The Government should enforce homes for young misbehaving adults, a program by which

can help to assist the Trade union, which means a larger scale of employment, also keeps

the young adults away from crime

• Groups and activates to offer assistance to young adult to stay away from crime

such as playing sport, musical instruments and religious get together.
