ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First of all I would like to thank god for everything he has done for me because without
him this S.B.A. couldn’t be done. I would also like to thank my cousin for providing me
with internet to do my researches and my aunt for helping me with the S.B.A. Last but
not least I would also like to thank my friend who is a past student of Camperdown for
helping me with most of the questionnaires.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM :

How can parents/guardians in my district prevent their teenage girls from getting
pregnant?

Research aims: the researcher intends to-

1. State the ways in which teenage pregnancy affects the teenage in my district.

2. Identify the ways that teenage pregnancy can b e prevented in my district.

3. Identify the causes of teenage pregnancy in my district.

REASON FOR SELECTING THE AREA OF RESEARCH

I chose this area of research because teenage pregnancy is a serious issue that may
seriously impact the future of a teenage girl. They might get the support they need to
maintain their basic needs for both them and the unborn child. they typically lack skills
needed to handle pregnancy and motherhood and so I would like to point out to them
that it is not the right path to take.
METHOD OF INVESTIGATION

In order to collect data from the survey, I have decided to seek to investigate the causes and
effects of teenage pregnancy in my district which is Gregory Park, Portmore located in
St.Catherine by the use of questionnaires.

The questionnaire as a tool for collecting data has a number of advantages:

 -It guarantees confidentiality since respondents are not required to give their
names.
 -It takes little time to be done.
 -it can be done at the convenience of the person required to have it done.

PROCEDURES USED TO C OLLECT DATA

A total of 50 questionnaires were prepared for distribution to the resident’s .It was
expected that at least 35 of these will be returned.

I have decided to distribute the questionnaires in my district by giving adults and

experienced teenagers. The number of all the people’s responses was written each on
slip of paper. A total of 50 slips were counted.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPR ETATION OF DATA

The respondents in my district believe that the level of teenage pregnancy in the district can be reduced. They
also believe that the men over the age of 18 years who are getting the teenage girls pregnant should be locked
away.

It is believed by 60% of the respondents that most of the teenage girls get pregnant because of less attention
from their parents/guardian. A few amount (25%) believe it’s because of bad influence and 15% believe its
because of peer pressure.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The following steps are recommended so as to help parents/guardian prevent their teenage girls from
getting pregnant:

should improve their level of communication with them to develop a better relationship.

2. The teenager girls who get pregnant in my district should go back to school after having their baby
and further their education.
