Michael Schumacher, the famous Formula 1 pilot, was in great trouble last summer. Before the
British Grand Prix at Silverstone, his blue and gold ceramic talisman had fallen from a thin necklace
around his neck.
Schumacher was searching for the talisman with lots of car mechanics but they couldn’t find it.
The superstar was very unhappy because he had got the talisman from his wife Corinna, and he liked it
very much.
Finally Schumacher turned to one of Britain’s favourite papers, The Sun and asked the paper to
help him find the amulet. So on Monday there was an article about the lost talisman in The Sun Luckily,
Steve Smith, a worker at Silverstone is a reader of The Sun. On Monday he read The Sun and the story
about Michael and the talisman. “I was walking in the Ferrari motor homes, near the cars, when I saw a
small amulet. I almost threw it into the dustbin”, said Steve. But there was no dustbin near the place so
he put it into his pocket and forgot all about it. Next morning he read the newspaper and knew that the
amulet in his pocket was Schumacher’s.
Schumacher was preparing to test in Jerez in Spain when he heard that Steve Smith had found
the talisman. Schumacher was so happy that he invited Steve to the next Silverstone Grand Prix. Steve
said: “I’ve been to Silverstone more times than Michael so it wouldn’t mean much to me. I’m just
happy I found it for him.” Smith gave the talisman to Schumacher at the German Grand Prix at
Hockenheim a week later.
