Beyond the Pandemic: Survival of the Fittest in Business

The New York Time has labelled it the ‘Age of Anti Ambition’ – the pandemic has led to
millions quitting their job, with careers and entrepreneurial businesses falling apart, and
society seeking something more fulfilling than an income. A McKinsey study from last
year showed that 42 percent of women feel burned out, compared with 32 percent in
2020.

Are you one of the 42%?

Well, I could say no. I learnt how to take another pace, how to rejuvenate, find even
more joy in my work, strengthened my resilience muscle…

How do you think the pandemic has affected women entrepreneurs and professional
women in business?
I guess it is a whole spectrum of effects, because some of the women were hit really
hard, depending on the business they were in or the family situation they have…
however some of them used this time to strengthen their skills, find another job or
passion/hobby, rearranged their life views and next moves… In general, it was more
difficult for the women due to the more roles they have and the still not so balanced
place in the family (obligations around the house, food, children, elders).

Do you think the pandemic has led to any positives?

The pandemic was not a good thing, it was shocking to the whole world. However, it led
to some positive opportunities, people got more connected globally, the digitalization
offered us tools and ways for higher productivity…and many people started to look after
their health in a more profound way, as well as to turn their attention towards
themselves, look inside…

What changes have businesses had to implement to adapt to the post-pandemic

times?
First, it is the way of how we work now (work from home, hybrid), then it is the bigger
digitalization and, finally, marketing-wise, it is the new needs of the customers.

How can businesses create a winning business model?

If we speak about women’ businesses (which is my specialty), I would say the winning
business model is the one that takes into consideration the following sides:
- her passion and zone of genius (what to offer and how)
- the habits and needs of the customers
- the social (family) environment of the woman business owner.
