Law of Conservation of Mass

A teacher conducted an investigation in

class to determine if the contents of a
closed container either loses or gains mass
after a chemical reaction takes place. He
placed 40 mL of water into a bottle, added
one alka-seltzer tablet and quickly closed
the bottle with a balloon.
The data table shows observations made
before the reaction.
Once the contents of the container
completely reacted, the teacher measured
the mass of the entire system shown in
figure 2. He shared his results with the
class.
