Level Up!
Title:

Our group’s project, “Level Up!”, aims to provide more opportunities in esports for

youths to pursue professional gaming as a profitable and fulfilling career. In this I&R,

the aspects, a strategy, and people related will be discussed.

The key feature of our second strategy is the invitation of healthcare professionals to

provide tips about maintaining good posture and managing screen usage to

minimise the health implications of gaming.

One shortcoming of this feature is that some youths may not always apply these tips

in their daily routine, as they are very likely to forget them. Most experts agree that

the average attention span of youths aged 16 and above is 32 to 50 minutes 1 -

shorter than the intended 1.5-hour duration for each workshop. Youths may fail to

keep track of most of the knowledge taught, as some may lose attention during the

workshop. As such, our strategy cannot completely tackle the root problems of

health issues that youths face due to long hours of gaming, and thus the negative

outcome cannot be reduced as effectively as intended.

To solve the issue of youths' short attention spans, we can include Kahoot quizzes to

serve as checkpoints at every 30-minute interval for youths to check their

understanding. The top three respondents for each quiz can receive attractive prizes

like vouchers and coupons for gaming peripherals or ergonomic accessories. This

will keep most participants engaged with the programme as they will be motivated to

correctly answer as many questions as possible to win the rewards, thereby

maximising their learning from this workshop.

Sponsors who help fund the esports convention will also benefit substantially from

this project, as youths participating in the convention may look out for products that

they promote, such as mice and headphones. This will bring more brand awareness

to these sponsors, contributing to higher profits in the long run.

One study shows that sponsorships can drive a 10% increase in consumer

purchasing intent and a significant increase in sales. Customers who see brands

supporting their favourite sports teams are more inclined to support these companies

in return with purchases and word-of-mouth marketing 2. This means that if sponsors

collaborate with famous esports players who are invited to the convention, they will

become more visible to our target audience and receive greater recognition to help

achieve more sales. As these players will personally meet the attendees, they can

share their experience of working with these sponsors, enticing attendees to

research and consider buying the products and services they provide.

We can use social media apps most popular among youths, like Instagram and

TikTok, to tag sponsors and share their promotions and giveaways, exposing them

to a wider audience and hooking gaming-passionate youths into visiting the

convention. We may create a dedicated streaming space where popular online

influencers can promote the sponsors’ products and services while using their

hashtags on livestreams, to attract more attention for sponsors to grow their

businesses, while letting influencers earn money from the promotions.
