1.0 APPLICATION
This specification covers a fuel resistant hose suitable for Diesel fuel filler neck connections or other
similar applications.
2.0 SCOPE
This specification covers the general requirements, property and performance requirements, and
source approval and quality control requirements.
2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances
Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply
with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specification.
3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS
Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following
standards, specifications and regulations are referenced in this specification.

4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Hose Construction
The hose shall consist of a smooth bore tube of nitrile rubber, reinforced with one or more plies of
textile fiber yarn, cord, or fabric, and finished with a cover of an oil and weather-resistant elastomer.
4.2 Dimensions and Tolerances
Hose shall meet the dimensions and tolerance requirements of SAE-30R6.
4.3 Property and Performance Requirements
Hose supplied to this specification shall meet all property and performance requirements of SAE30R6
Hose as per SAE J30.
5.0 QUALITY
Parts and assemblies will meet the cleanliness requirements of MPAPS F-2 Level III. All hose
produced to this specification will be clean, free of dirt, grease, and contamination. All rubber debris
from cutting and processing will be removed. Any internal release agents shall be flushed from the

inside of the hose. There shall be no fabric or flash exposed on the ID of the hose. Parts shall be free
of voids and/or reinforcement splices.
5.1 Qualification
Material and processes submitted for approval to this specification shall include the following:
5.1.1 Report: A detailed and signed test report documenting testing to this specification prepared as
per MPAPS P-9543. The report will include actual test data not merely test summaries.
5.1.2 Failure Modes: Test samples or photographs showing failure modes for each destructive test as
necessary to fully describe those failure modes. Descriptions are adequate if the mode is easily
understandable (no jargon) and not unexpected. Unexpected failure modes shall be described or
pictured as completely as possible.
5.1.3 Test Procedure: The procedure used for preparing, curing and assembling materials for test.
5.1.4 Analysis: A detailed analysis of the test results including assumptions made, unexpected results
and an explanation of any non-compliant results.
5.2 Submission

6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL


6.1 Supplier Requirements
All suppliers to Navistar Inc. are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements.
Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP
(Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must
maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration
certificates to their Navistar Corporate Buyer upon request.
6.2 Approval
Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all
respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or
processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties,
processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall
notify Truck Development and Technology Center and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the
proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test
samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with
CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change.
6.3 Process Control
The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using
ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a
state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part
supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using Navistar plant may
determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products.

7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION


Each hose manufacturer shall incorporate into the construction of the hose an identifying yarn (color)
as assigned by the Rubber Manufacturers Association. Each hose shall be labeled or marked on the
outer cover along the entire length of the hose at intervals of not less than 380 mm (15 inches) in a
color contrasting to that of the hose color, in clearly legible block capital letters not less than 3 mm
(1/8 inch) high, with the following minimum information in the order listed:
(a) Vendor Code -- A four-or-five-digit code assigned by Navistar to each vendor. Contact
Corporate Technical Standards, Truck Development and Technology Center,
for assignment of codes.
(b) Hose Type -- Identification by hose type, as required.
(c) Size -- Nominal size, i.e., diameter in fractions of an inch or "dash" sizes, as required.
(d) Date Code -- The six-digit date code, with first two digits (01-12) representing the month,
(01-31) representing the day, and last two digits (86) representing the year, is
the preferred method for date codes. Other methods of date code may be used
by agreement between the purchaser and supplier.
NOTE: In many cases, DOT, FMVSS, and/or SAE documents and specifications prescribe a
specific marking identification procedure. Where identification requirements of this
specification conflict with DOT, FMVSS, and/or SAE requirements, the DOT, FMVSS,
and/or SAE requirements shall prevail.
