1. Summary A summary restates the main ideas of a complex reading material. A good summary accurately
Paper represents the author’s ideas and key points and does not contain your own commentary on the
material. The key to a well-written summary is to identify the author’s thesis. The thesis statement
may be used as the introductory sentence of your summary, and your other sentences can make up
the body. It must clearly communicate what the entire text was trying to achieve. Except for the
thesis, do not quote the original work. Some more tips:

 Write in the present tense.

 Make sure to include the author and title of the work.
 Be concise.

2. Reflection A reflections paper, also known as a reflective essay, recaps and evaluates a personal experience in
Paper terms of lessons and ideas learned through the experience. An interaction with a reading material,
story or article at a more personal level may be considered a personal experience for reflection. A
reflection paper is usually about 500 words, depending on the nature of the assignment. Its consists
of three parts:

1. Introduction - includes a short explanation of the experience that will discussed in the body of
the paper.
2. Main body of the reflections paper – use one paragraph for a single experience or milestone.
The body of the essay should only be about three paragraphs for shorter reflections essays.
3. Conclusion - This paragraph should focus on the importance of the event or experience,
including information and lessons learned from the experience, rather than a recap of what
you experienced.
