In my own understanding, if people do not actively engage in politics, they effectively give others the
power to decide on what is important to them. Furthermore, if those others are not the most able or
skilled people, they might decide things that are bad for the person who isn't participating and for
society as one.

Furthermore to the the quote, becoming involved in politics is not only a civic obligation but also a way
to make sure that one's own interests are represented and that the best judgments are made for the
good of all. People run the risk of handing power to those who are less deserving of it by staying out of
politics.
