Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) – Music


This music degree is designed for transfer to a four-year university music program of study. If you prefer smaller classes, more one-on-one
interaction and feedback, and excellent preparation for your transfer and placement in a university music program, this is the degree that
most prepares you for success. This program offers your first two years of courses such as theory, applied music (private lessons), and
performance opportunities in a culturally diverse learning environment, within a high-tech and modern facility; complete with practice
rooms, keyboard labs, and multiple performance venues.

The Associate in Fine Arts in Music degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of
60 semester hours of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, GTCC includes opportunities for the
achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic
computer use.

Upon successful completion of the Associate in Fine Arts in Music degree, graduates will be able to:

■ Demonstrate strategies to acquire new information in the practice of music performance and music history.
■ Analyze relevant issues in music performance and music history.
■ Apply critical thinking through the demonstration of foundational skills in music.
■ Perform a representative sample of musical selections for educational and professional applications.

AFA
Universal General Education Transfer Component (25 credits)
All Universal General Education Transfer Component courses will transfer for equivalency credit. They include study in
the areas of English, communication; humanities and fine arts; social and behavioral sciences; natural sciences and
mathematics.
