The Necessity of Evaluating the Effectiveness of Wearing the Face Shield

With a Mask Only on the Mouth, as a Kind of Physical Precluding to

Combat New Coronavirus Outbreak

ABSTRACT:
Given the prospect of Covid-19 outbreak, successive mutations in the virus in a globally prone
context, and the relative and temporary efficacy of the vaccines, effective health-oriented measures
in combating Covid-19 outbreak are needed to address this serious threat. These measures should
be taken with a participatory and proactive approach.
Until a sustainable solution is achieved, effective "Physical Precluding" must be regarded
accompanied by other necessary measures like vaccination. The transmission capability of some
new, mutant variants of SARS-CoV-2 is substantially high, and an increasing reduction in the
effectiveness of using face masks "alone" in precluding the infection with such new variants is
alarming. An effective physical precluding by the general public in usual spaces can be
accomplished by applying suitable face shields together with expedient masks under the shields.
Providing a practical and economical method for physical precluding, "along with widespread
distribution of face shields", can also bring about promoting and raising the culture of health and
prevention.
It seems the most important function of the mask under the shield is to reduce the amount and
especially the "velocity" of the particles that come out through the mouth when speaking,
coughing, and sneezing. By "an effective reduction in the velocity of such particles (via using a
cover on the mouth under the shield)" and in view of "the function of the shield placed in front of
the cover" and "the main role of larger particles in the Covid-19 transmission", any risk of the
problematic particles that could eventually come out from around the shield will decrease. About
this, conducting a simple, applied experiment about the effectiveness of the concomitant
application of the face shield with various face masks that "Only Cover the Mouth Under the
Shield", as "the facilitated method of simultaneous use of the face shield and mask by the public",
is highly recommended. Likewise, the effectiveness of utilizing various face masks, also including
"economical Washable cloth covers", worn only on the mouth under the shield requires to be
meticulously experienced. (Anyhow, covering only the mouth under the face shield can generally
make it easier for many people to use the shield.)

‫کرونای جدید )‪(New Coronavirus‬‬

‫چکیده‪:‬‬
‫با توجه به دورنمای ییماری ناشی از ویروس کرونای جدید‪ ،‬تجاربِ مربوط و امکان بروز باز هم بیشترِ‬
‫جهشهای خطرناک در ویروس کرونای جدید در بستری گسترده در جهان و نسبی و ناپایدار بودنِ‬
‫پیشاپیش اقدامات بهداشت‪-‬محور برای مقابله با این تهدیداتِ جدا‬
‫ِ‬ ‫کارایی واکسنها‪ ،‬در نظر داشتن‬
‫محتمل در آینده نیز ضرورت دارد؛ اقداماتی که رویکردی مشارکت‪-‬دهنده داشته و فعال و پیش‪-‬‬
‫دستانه باشند‪.‬‬
‫ی فیزیکی‬
‫تا دستیابی به راهکاری پایدار‪ ،‬عالوه بر تمهیداتی همچو واکسیناسیون‪ ،‬حائل‪-‬گذار ِ‬
‫میتواند در زمره این اقدامات باشد‪ .‬با در نظر داشتن توان سرایتِ خیلی باالی برخی سویه های‬
‫جدید‪ ،‬تاثیر پایینتر واکسنهای پیشین و "کارایی کمترِ استفاده ی تنها از ماسک در پیشگیری از‬
‫ی ناشی از سویه های مزبور"‪ ،‬استفاده از شیلد یا سپر صورت همراه با پوشش‬ ‫گسترش بیمار ِ‬
‫الزم در زیر آن میتواند راهی موثر برای عموم در فضاهای عادی برای مقابله با گسترش عفونت‬
‫ی کرونایی قلمداد شود‪.‬‬ ‫جد ِ‬
‫اما برای بسیاری استفاده همزمان از سپر صورت و ماسکی که هم روی دهان و هم به خصوص‬
‫ن فقط دهان در زیر‬
‫روی بینی را بپوشانند برای مدت طوالنی به سادگی عملی نیست‪ .‬اما پوشاند ِ‬
‫پوشش‬
‫ِ‬ ‫مهم‬
‫ِ‬ ‫سپر صورت‪ ،‬برعکس‪ ،‬میتواند استفاده از سپر را برای بسیاری تسهیل نماید‪ .‬کارکرد‬
‫مزبور در زیر سپر صورت‪ ،‬عالوه بر کاهش تعداد‪ ،‬کاهش ِ "سرعت و شدتِ" خروج ذراتِ خارج گشته‬
‫از راه دهان همچنین با توجه به "تاثیر صفحه سپر ِ قرارگرفته در مقابل آن" و نیز "نقش عمده ذرات‬
‫نسبتا بزرگترِ تنفسی در انتقال کووید‪ "19-‬است‪.‬‬
‫بررسی یک شیوه تسهیل‪-‬شده استفاده همزمان از سپر صورت و ماسک اهمیت اساسی‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫بنابراین‬
‫اثربخشی استفاده از سپر‬
‫ِ‬ ‫دادن‬ ‫نشان‬ ‫برای‬ ‫ساده‬ ‫سازی‬ ‫‪-‬‬‫شبیه‬ ‫یک‬ ‫انجام‬ ‫همچنین‬ ‫باره‬ ‫این‬ ‫در‬ ‫دارد‪.‬‬
‫صورت همراه با ماسکی فقط بر روی دهان و نه بر روی بینی در ِ‬
‫زیر سپر با ماسکهای مختلف‪،‬‬
‫ی قابل شستشو‪ ،‬پیشنهاد میشود‪.‬‬ ‫ل یکبار مصرف و نیز پوششهای پارچه ا ِ‬
‫شامل ماسکهای معمو ِ‬
