I. Introduction

1.1 Purpose
Every country needs a person to do economic, social and other aspects. For
example, the person who decide and do all the things for a village that call headman, if is a
quarters that call administrator, if the state>the state chief. In the same way, the country must
have a president. That's why we should need to know the selection process. So the topic I'm
going to talk about today is about the American election process.

1.2 Political Parties and Major parties in US

Since 1850, there have been two major parties in the United States, the
Democratic Party and the Republican Party (GOP). The Democratic Party was founded in
1828 by Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, so it can be said the oldest party in the
world. Although the republican party can be said to be one of the oldest parties, founded in
1854 by anti-slavery. The two parties have both evolved in terms of ideologies, positions,
and support bases over their long lifespans, in response to social, cultural, and economic
developments These two big parties can be said to be the first and the second, and they are
always side by side. The third party could be the Green Party or the Libertarian Party. Other
political parties are progressive party, bull mouse party, farmer labor party etc.

1.3 Current US President (from which Party)

The current president of the United States is the 46th and took
office on January 20,2021. He is Joe Biden, from Democratic who was
elected over the current republican president Donald trump. After taking
the allegiance, Joe Biden became the oldest president in US history. If
anyone noticed, the time when Joe Biden became president was a time
when the Covid-19 was in full swing and the economy started to suffer.
He made the first hundred million vaccine for his country and gave
$1400 to the people who are in trouble. I think this is his first step.

II. Electoral Process

2.1 Define election and Electoral Process
To be clear about election and electoral, election means that only
the privileged class can vote. For example, it is a business where a leader
is elected by parliamentarians and councilors by popular vote. Electoral is the collective vote
of the country's states or electoral constituencies.

2.2 Steps in Electoral Process

There are four steps in the electoral process, and I will explain them below. So they
are
1. Primaries and Caucuses
2. Nomination and campaigning
3. General Election
4. The Electoral Collage.

2.3 Primaries and Caucuses

Primaries is a way to choose a candidate, similar to a general election. The event is
organized by the state government, and the voters can vote in secret for the person they want
to vote for. The person who gets the most votes wins. Caucuses is organized privately by

political parties, and it is a meeting to choose candidates for the election .

2.4 Nomination and Campaigning

Each party holds a national convention to select a final presidential nominee. State
delegates from the primaries and caucuses selected to represent the people will now
“endorse” their favorite candidates and the final presidential nominee from each party will be
officially announced at the end of the conventions. The presidential candidate also chooses a
running mate (Vice Presidential candidate). The presidential candidates campaign throughout
the country to win the support of the general population.

2.5 General Election

A general election is a political voting election where generally all or most
members of a given political body are chosen. These are usually held for a nation, state, or
territory's primary legislative body, and are different from by-elections (only one electorate
goes to election). In most systems, a general election is a regularly scheduled election where
both a head of government (such as president or prime minister), and either "a class or all
members of a legislature are elected at the same time. Occasionally, dates for general
elections may align with dates of elections within different administrative divisions, such as a
local election.
III. The Electoral Collage
The Electoral college is a process in which electors or representatives from
each state in number proportional to the state’s population cast their vote and determine who
will be president. Often these represent different organizations, political parties or entities,
with each organization, political party or entity represented by a particular number of electors
or with votes weighted in a particular way. There are a total of 538 electors selected
according to each state’s policy. Each elector casts one vote following the general election,
and the candidate who gets more than half (270) wins. The newly elected President and Vice
President are inaugurated in January.
