Gangsta Granny
Ben is 11 years old, and he lives with his parents. His mother
works at a nail salon, and his father is a security guard at a
supermarket.
His parents love dancing, and every Friday night they take Ben to
his Granny’s house so they can go to their favourite dance show.
Ben’s Granny is lovely and old, a typical Granny - white hair, thick
glasses, hearing aid, false teeth, and a floral dress.
Ben hates going to his Granny’s because she smells of cabbage,
and all she wants to do is play Scrabble.
Ben discovers that she used to be a jewel thief and asks her to join
him to steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London.*
Ben wants to enter the Tower through some old pipes in the river Thames. He wants to
become a plumber, and he knows a lot about pipes.
They come face to face with the queen, so they don’t steal the jewels (and they don’t go to
prison!).
Later, Ben’s Granny tells him that she was never a jewel thief – that was a lie. She just didn’t
want Ben to think she was boring, and she wanted to spend more time with him.
