At the central level, effects such as nausea, vomiting and anxiety are produced, so the antagonists

produce the opposite effects, serving as therapy for anxiety (antipsychotics or antidepressants) or
nausea (antiemetics).

Channels open by mechanical stimulation

This type of ion channels open in response to some mechanical stimulation and regulate complex
phenomena such as pain. Some of the stimulations include: smell, heat, sound, vibration.

Example 1: Alcoholic beverages and benzodiazepines

GABA type B receptor.

There are two types of GABA receptors, type a (GABAa) and type b (GABAb); the former are
ionotropic, that is, their mode

Alcoholic beverages contain ethanol. Ethanol also inhibits the production of monoamine oxidase,
thus slowing down the oxidation of dopamine at the postsynaptic level and this increases the
sensation of natural pleasure. When ethanol stops working due to hepatic metabolism, pleasure
decreases because MAO starts to oxidize dopamine, and the user tends to seek to consume more
ethanol to maintain the same pleasurable effect, making ethanol an extremely addictive
substance. .

Ethanol is extremely dangerous since its hepatic metabolism produces the metabolite
acetaldehyde, 20 times more toxic than ethanol and a possible carcinogen. Benzodiazepines exert
the same sedative-hypnotic effect as ethanol, which is why they are commonly used to treat
alcoholism and anxiety.
