Scolded over asking for beedi, labourer stabs
man to death in Delhi's Shahbad Dairy
NEW DELHI, JUL 20

A man was stabbed to
death allegedly by a labourer
in outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy
area after he scolded the latter
for asking a beedi from him,
police said on Wednesday.
The accused has been
identified as Satyawan, a
resident of Shahbad Dairy. He
works at a carpenter's shop,
they said.
The matter came to light
on Tuesday around 9 am when
police received a call about a
man's body, with stab injuries,
lying in a vacant space near
Mahadev Chowk, police said.
Deputy Commissioner

recovered the body.
Around five stab injuries
were found on the body. The
man was later identified as
Sanjay Mishra (35), a resident
of Shahbad Dairy, he said.

and an investigation was taken
up, he said.
On the basis of a tip-off,
Satyawan was apprehended
and later arrested in
connection with the incident,
the DCP said.
During interrogation, the

where he saw Mishra with his
friend.
Satyawan asked them for a
beedi and the duo scolded him
following which, he stabbed
them, the DCP said.
Mishra's friend sustained
minor injuries in the attack,

from the accused, police said,
adding further investigation is

Women Entitlement Scheme: Issue of tokens
and application at the door steps started

The job of distributing tokens and
applications to beneficiaries at their door
steps began on Wednesday, according
to Mr. P.Shankar, Managing Director,
Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development
Project and Monitoring Officer, Salem
District.
On Wednesday, Mr. Shankar
inspected the special camps set up in
various locations throughout Salem for
the Women Entitlement Scheme, and
he held meeting with all departmental
officers involved in the scheme's
execution at the collectorate.
Addressing the officials, Mr. Shankar
said, the Chief Minister M.K.Stalin
has announced a special project called
Kalaignar Women Entitlement Scheme
and direct monitoring the activities
of the project is underway by paying
special attention and carrying out various
measures in order to ensure proper
implementation of the scheme.
The application registration camps
will be held in the first phase on the July
24th. In this regard, ration shop workers
will visit houses from today (Thursday)
and distribute tokens with application.
Revenue, Cooperative and Police
Department should work in this work.
It is very important that all the officers
and employees involved in this work
should know all the details related to this
project, said Mr.Shankar.
In case of doubt or clarifications,
the higher officers should be contacted
immediately. As all the data of the public
are already complete, all arrangements
have been made to ensure that the work is
carried out accurately and transparently
like the election process. All Deputy
Collectors and Thasildars should
personally inspect the camps organized
for this purpose in their area. Starting
from the field workers involved in this
work, all level officers should work with
full commitment, said Mr. Shankar.

The Indian Olympic Association
(IOA) on Wednesday said the final
assessment of the country's wrestling
contingent for the upcoming Asian
Games will be made prior to players'
departure for China to "maximise
the chances of sending the most
competitive team".
The IOA said in a statement that
"the selection process for wrestlers
to participate in the Asian Games is
designed to be fair, transparent and
in accordance with the guidelines set
forth by the International Federation
(UWW)".
IOA statement came after
country's promising junior wrestlers
moved the Delhi High Court,
demanding a fair trial as ad-hoc panel
exempted Bajrang Punia and Vinesh
Phogat from Asian Games trials.
However IOA officials did not
elaborate if assessment will be
relevant after sending entries.
Several calls to IOA officials went
unanswered.
"The Selection Committee,
comprising experienced officials
and experts, has recently published
the norms for selection of wrestlers,
so that the entry process of the team
including reserves can be completed
before 23 Jul 2023.
"To maximize the chances
of sending the most competitive
wrestling team to the Asian Games
2022, the final assessment of the
wrestling team will be made prior
to departure of the team for the
competition," the IOA release read.
"This approach will enable us
to assess the athletes' current form,
consider their recent performances,
and take into account any last-minute
developments that may have impacted
the selection process."
Vinesh (53kg) and Bajrang Punia
(65kg) were given direct entries for the
Asian Games by the Indian Olympic
Association's ad-hoc committee on
Tuesday while other wrestlers will
have to book their places in the Indian
squad through selection trials on July
22 and 23.
Besides, the IOA said it was
committed to sending a clean, dope-
free contingent to the Asian Games to
be held in Hangzhou from September
23 to October 8.

our steadfast dedication to upholding
the principles of clean and drug-
free competition, we are resolute in
ensuring that only athletes who abide
by the highest ethical standards are
given the opportunity to participate.
"Our selection process for the

by the World Anti-Doping Agency

holders in the US to come and
work in the country, which

the scheme meeting its target
within the first day.
The H-1B visa is a non-
immigrant visa that allows
US companies to employ
foreign workers in speciality
occupations that require
theoretical
expertise.

H-1B visa holders officially
opened for applications on
July 16.The Immigration,
Refugees, and Citizenship
Canada (IRCC) now says
applicants no longer apply
for the scheme as it has been
closed.
"We reached the cap of
10,000 applications for this
initiative on July 17, 2023,"
the IRCC said on its website
The message on the IRCC
applicant portal also says the
same thing.
"The temporary public
policy for H-1B visa holders
is now closed. The intake cap
of 10,000 primary applicants
was reached and no additional
applications are being
accepted," the portal said.
Canada last month
announced the scheme,
hoping to become a world
leader in a variety of emerging
technologies and it hopes to
attract professionals affected
by massive layoffs by US tech
giants.
The programme will
also provide for study or
work permits for their family
members.

that between 30 to 40 per
cent of them are Indian IT
professionals, a significant

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish
Kumar on Wednesday sought to rebut
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's
criticism of his alliance with the RJD,
underscoring his old friendship with
the party's founding president Lalu
Prasad.

about Modi's remarks at the NDA
meeting on Tuesday when the PM
had spoken of "abuses exchanged
by JD(U) and RJD" while flaying

HC stays coercive action against Congress

The Allahabad High Court has
stayed any coercive action against
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha
MP Randeep Surjewala till the
disposal of his application before
a Varanasi court to provide him
with legible documents pertaining
to a 23-year-old case of damage
to public property.
Justice Raj Beer Singh passed
the order in a petition filed by
Surjewala seeking legible and
readable documents along with
the charge sheet filed in the trial.
He had challenged the order
of the trial court rejecting his plea
for the same.
The trial court maintained that
legible copies of the charge sheet
along with all documents forming
part of it had been supplied to the
Congress leader.
However, Surjewala told the
several documents supplied by
the trial court were not legible.
During the course of hearing,
the counsel for Surjewala referred
to copies of certain documents
annexed with the petition and
pointed out that the same are not
legible.
It was argued that the apex
court on April 17 directed the trial
court judge to provide him with
the legible documents. However,
the same had not been done
by him.
"In view of aforesaid, it is
directed that in case the applicant/
accused files an application within
a period of eight days from today
before the Trial Court, clearly
specifying such copies supplied,
which are not legible, the Trial
Court shall consider and decide
the same expeditiously and ensure
that reasonably legible copies of
such documents are supplied to
the applicant/accused,' the High
