1.1. Good morning class! You all did very well in the test
and I know that you’re working very hard. Well done
to all of you! Now, as you know from the letter we
sent home to your parents, the end-of-the-year party
will be next Friday and I’m sure you are looking
forward to it. We’re asking all of you to bring some
snacks and the school will provide the drinks, prizes,
and the games.
1.2. A: Hi, Sara. Do you want to play tennis this
afternoon?
B: I’m sorry, Chris. I have a doctor’s appointment.
A: Maybe we can go to the cinema instead.
B: I’m not sure. If the doctor is busy, we won’t make
it on time.
A: Okay, maybe next time.
B: Or... maybe we can have something to eat after
my appointment.
A: That sounds good. Text me and I’ll meet you
outside the doctor’s office.
1.3. Jenna: Hi, Sue. This is Jenna. How was your shopping
trip yesterday? Did you find what you wanted in the
new clothes shop? Anyway, I just left my mum’s place
and I'm on my way to Laura’s house. Oh, it's my stop,
so I gotta go. I’ll call you later in the evening to talk
about the concert Friday night. You'll love that band!
1.4. A: Hi, Diana. How was your trip to Paris?
B: Fantastic! I loved it but I had too much work and
didn’t have enough time to see all the things
I wanted to.
A: Well, at least you get to travel and see all these
wonderful places. I’d love to have your job. Where are
you off to next?
B: Believe it or not, I have to go to New York to meet
an Italian artist.
A: Oh, lucky you! Can I come?
1.5. Woman: Lucy, it's Mum. I had to go and collect
your brother from the station. He needs my help
with his luggage. Your dinner is in the fridge. You
could put it in the oven, but the microwave is
quicker. About 12 minutes should be enough. Oh,
and your friend Sandra has just called to say thank
you for your help with her project. See you later.
Zadanie 2.
2.1. At first, I used the Internet to look up information in
a dictionary or an encyclopaedia, just for my own
pleasure, you know? I spent hours just surfing for no
real reason. I googled almost anything that came to
my mind. I think it was like a game in a way. Then
I realised I wasn’t doing anything other than sitting
in front of my computer and I started getting a bit
worried. Now I don't go online as often as I did in the
past.

2.2. I spend too much time online – I know that. The first
thing I do in the morning is to check my email. After
school, I go online to chat with friends or read my
horoscope and things like that. In the evening,
I always have my smartphone on so I can receive
messages or chat. To be honest, I’ve tried to spend
less time online but without success. I don’t know
why, but I feel I must always be connected!
2.3. I think the Internet is a great tool. With all the social
networks people can be in touch all the time and that
is truly fantastic. I mean, I’ve even got Internet on my
mobile phone, but I use it to do my homework or to
find necessary information, not just to connect with
friends. Most teenagers spend all their time playing
games or chatting online. I just don’t understand how
some people ‘simply can’t live without it.’
2.4. I’ve actually stopped using the Internet now except
at the weekends. I had a bit of a problem and was
doing very badly at school. But it's not all my fault,
you know? My parents didn’t want me going out too
much so I spent a lot of evenings in my bedroom.
When I got the Internet, it was great because I could
chat with my friends. It was cheaper and better than
sending text messages or talking on the phone.
I spent hours and hours chatting online instead of
studying.

A: Who’s going to take care of the plants while we’re
on holiday?
B: We could ask Mrs Smith, I suppose.
A: Yes, OK. What about the cat, though?
B: Well, we can forget about Mrs Smith for that! You
know she hates cats. I can check with Bob next door.
He’ll be happy to come and feed her.
A: Right. How many tins of cat food do we need?
B: I’ll get ten from the supermarket tomorrow.
A: That won’t be enough. Make it fifteen.
B: All right. What should we do about the newspapers?
A: I’ll tell the newsagent we don’t want any deliveries
this week.
B: Fine. I hope we haven’t forgotten anything.
