Clean Agent Fire Suppression System
RAPIDX (FK 5-1-12)
Product Description
The RAPIDX Clean Agent Gas fire suppression system utilizes
the halocarbon gas Fluorinated Ketone (FK-5-1-12), listed in
ISO 14520-1, NFPA 2001 Standard on Clean Agent Fire suppression
System and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
FK-5-1-12 is a colourless, weak odour, liquefied compressed gas. It
is stored as a liquid but discharged into the hazard as a colourless,
electrically non-conductive gas vapour, which can be used to
protect electronic equipment. RAPIDX is considered to be ozone
friendly, which makes it an environmentally suitable product.
Operation
The RAPIDX Clean Agent gas system consists of pressurised
cylinder(s), a manifold where required, connection and distribution
pipes plus nozzles. At a reference temperature of 21°C, the RAPIDX
stored cylinder pressure is 25 bar, 42 bar or 50 bar. The proprietary
system components, from cylinders to nozzles, are supplied in kit
form. Components need to be secured to a suitable solid fixing
point such as a wall or framework. Each system is designed
specifically for the area which it is protecting. Gas discharge times
and distribution is achieved by the correct sizing of the nozzle
orifice holes which are engraved on the nozzle body.
The RAPIDX Clean Agent Gas Suppression Systems are designed to Freezing Point -108ºC
suppress the following types of fires: Critical Temperature 168.7ºC
• Class A - Surface Fires / Ordinary Combustible Fires
• Class B - Flammable Liquid Fires Critical Pressure 18.65 bar
• Class C – Energized Electrical Equipment Fires Critical Volume 494.5 cc/mole
The gaseous component, FK-5-1-1-12 complies with the following Specific Heat, Liquid @ 25ºC 1.103 kJ/kg ºC
standards:
Specific Heat, Vapour @ Constant Pressure
• Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) 0.891 kJ/kg ºC
(1 atm) and 25ºC
• US EPA SNAP Rpt.
Heat of Vaporization at Boiling Point 88 kJ/kg
• NFPA 2001 Clean Agent Fire suppression System
Thermal Conductivity of Liquid @ 25ºC 0.56 / 0.39 W/m ºC

Nozzle
There is one type of 360 degree discharge nozzle available for the
RAPIDX system, which requires 16 holes. The orifice hole sizes and
size of nozzle are determined by calculation using software such as
Jensen-Hughes©. The orifice holes are drilled in 0.1 mm increments
in accordance with the specified system design. All nozzle sizes are
threaded BSP.
