Why do we waste food?
 Improper storage
 Overproduction
 Oversized portions
 Cosmetic standards
 Confusing food labels
 Buying too much
Did you know…….?
In Poland
In Poland, about 2.5 million
people live in extreme poverty,
and a quarter of Poles do not eat
wholesome meals for economic
reasons. On the other hand, we
waste around 9 million tonnes of
food annually. Is it a lot or a little?
The most frequently wasted food in Poland
Annually Poles waste food worth
EUR 14 billion, which constitutes
60 percent of the value of Polish
food exports. Poland ranks fifth in
the European Union in terms of the
amount of food wasted per each
citizen.
Very sad story………
There was a trial of a man, the most
famous baker in Legnica, who gave unsold
bread to the poor.
He distributed unsold bread for charity, by
handing over to the parish canteen for the
homeless. However, he did not keep any
records, mistakenly believing that it was
not a donation, but a liquidation of goods.
Therefore, he did not pay VAT, which he
should have paid according to the law in
force at the time.
How to reduce food waste:
Does anything depend on us???
Adopt a healthier, more sustainable diet
Buy only what you need
Pick ugly fruit and vegetables
Store food wisely
Understand food labelling
Start small
Love your leftovers
Put your food waste to use
Respect food
Support local food producers
Keep fish populations afloat
Use less water
Keep our soils and water clean
Eat more pulses and veggies
Sharing is caring
Remember! A lot depends on our attitude!!!
