Multiculturalism

Globalization is a result of the natural development of societies. Since the 18th century, with
global trading and travelling, people mix and there is a variety of cultures in most countries.

Big countries, like the USA, the UK, France, Germany and many others, as a consequence of
colonialism, are a result of many different races, beliefs and cultures.

Multiculturalism promotes acceptance and tolerance. Living with people who speak different
languages and believe in different things forces people to see others’ points of view, which
allows them to grow and widen our prospects.

However, many people feel difficulties in integrate and to coexist with different cultures and
may, sometimes, feel or promote discrimination regarding gender, sex, religion, philosophy,
politics and even skin colour.

I personallly believe multiculturalism is a good thing and we must promote tolerance in order
to establish modern and better societies.

Multiculturalism

Currently the most evident examples of multiculturalism are the EU and the USA. Probably
because of their economical and social status, they receive millions of immigrants from all
around the world and also because globalization is a consequence of 16th and 17th century
discoveries and colonization promoted by European countries.

The most notorious exemple is the USA as the country is seen as a melting pot, where all
beliefs, nationalities, cultures and religions mix together. Despite many conflicts based on
racial discrimination, multiculturalism has promoted tolerance and acceptance, making
societies more open to other views and other ways of doing things.

In Europe, recente years have brought many refugees escaping wars in Asia, Africa or even
within Europe itself, like Ukraine, which will again promote the integration of people from
different origins and with different life backgrounds. Eventually, the outcome will be a new
progressive Europe, more global and open to the world.
